Do you like the sound of rain on the roof? [I Like The Sound Of Rain On The Roof]

It’s coming down quite hard here, sometimes making an awfully loud racket, but I don’t mind. The various rhythms, the ebbs and flows.
The tapping on the windows.
The rumbling on the roof.
The occasional thunder in the distance.
And then suddenly, a quiet moment.
Just a light pitter patter now, which makes me wonder if this is the denouement.
Or the calm before the storm.

Absolutely love it.
It sends me into a meditative state.

Water is life.
Living in the country, I'm absolutely dependent on it.

@hartfire I like the sound of running water too, whether it is from a river or a fountain.
When it isn’t raining, I can hear the water rushing onto the beach.

Yes, living in the country you would be dependant on rain fall and conservation.
Do you have a cistern?
@NewKidInTown Yes, all sounds of water - deeply soothing.

(Though I might not feel that way if I lived in an area of hurricanes or tornadoes.)

We have two spring fed dams (ponds) which can pump up water at need, and three large rain tanks with filters and pumps.
Wet years are easy, but in the droughts we need every drop.

@hartfire It’s quite amazing to listen to the pattern of the rainfall changing as I type this.
The thunder is getting louder and lightning more frequent. Must be getting closer.

I wish you plenty of rain fall, as much as you need.
Do you have crops or livestock?
@NewKidInTown Horses, fruit, vegetables, and wildlife.

It's funny - I can imagine how it is for you there.
I feel joy in your pleasure of it.

@hartfire That’s nice.
It’s truly amazing how much the rhythm and noise level is constantly changing here.
I think I’m in the thick of it now.

I see on your profile you have Arabian horses. I was at a demonstration of them last Christmas, amazingly beautiful beasts! So lean and powerful.
@NewKidInTown I bred and trained them for eighteen years. Still have four and still ride almost every day. They're intelligent, lively, affectionate and willing. I love them in a way that it both mad and wonderful.

I'm sure a musician could record all those constantly varying sounds, and compose them into and extraordinary work.

Isn't it nice to feel dry and cozy indoors when all is sodden and pouring outside?

@hartfire My eldest daughter rides and she absolutely adores horses, to the point where she has started volunteering at the stables.
It must give you such joy to ride them, and that feeling of connection.

I just commented on the other post about the exact thing, recording the sounds. This is a long one, and it’s still going strong.

It does, especially as the ground outside is starting to sound quite wet and mucky. I don’t mind occasionally walking in the rain as well, but not with lightning flashing about.

One of the drawbacks of hearing all this rainfall? It makes me have to go pee! 🤭
@NewKidInTown Ha, ha, he, he! All that shooshing and whooshing in gutters and downpipes.

Yes, with riding that's exactly it - the feeling of deep connection and relationship with the horse. My favourite thing is rides in forest, across farmlands and in different kinds of landscapes. Just like walking a dog, the horse is constantly responding to the natural environment. One sees it in where he (or she) looks, cocks ears, sniffs the air, and the feeling of his muscles and movement - every twitch a message.

Wonderful that your daughter has access to a nearby stables. The on-the-ground relationship is every bit as good as in the saddle. Does she have a favourite kind of riding, a favourite breed of horse?

@hartfire I find it akin to perhaps when I rode a motorcycle, being in tune with the beast between your legs.

She just loves being around horses and now enjoys helping younger students with tacking and untacking, cleaning the horses and mucking out the stalls. It doesn’t seem like work to her at all.
She prefers Western style, and is only starting to learn to jump.

It’s gotten very quiet here now, light drizzle with the occasional thunder, but it’s moving away, further in the distance.
But my, that was enjoyable :)
