@Blodyn Four, no less! It was surprisingly busy for a weekday, maybe 30 or 40 kids and a few adults, the lifeguards were having a busy day. Mostly trying to get the kids not to run & jump
@firefall Sounds like a lifeguard nightmare. My pool is not open to the public. It's part of the Sports Science at the uni. But we have our moments! On Monday the children are having a splash time. The children from the school next door. I shall be lifeguarding in the water.
@Blodyn Right. It's like that a lot at this pool - public, and in the poor part of town, so when it gets hot, very popular with the kids.
Well, relatively to the rest of the year - I'm still surprised that it's not packed to capacity (180?) with this weather, but that seems to be related to black ppl here not being swimmers very much
@Blodyn something about black/american culture, maybe ? Maybe there was a long period they weren't allowed into pools because public facilities were just for the white people, at a guess, but I have no really solid grasp on why.
@firefall You are holding old prejudices. We are tipping statues of people involved in slavery into the docks. I am really surprised at you of all people. I don't care what colour skin people have. With my freckles, my skin is not so wonderful.
@Blodyn Id like to think I'm not holding a prejudice here, just observing what American culture did to black people, in the past (and it isn't all gone, yet).
I'm dismayed that more black people - the bulk of people in this part of the city - don't use the swimming facilities when it's so very cheap, and the weather is this hot, and I am guessing at why this is, that's all.
