where i live it stinks.. and you have to shower afterwards.
sometimes you get bacterial food poisoning like infections if you don't blow your nose.
my wife who has lung cancer, used to love walking in the rain, made jokes "get your oil slicks out!" got a pretty bad hack for a while now she's got the sinusitis.
ok, i'll stop before i rant about that.
but, i know what you mean, where i grew up the rain was 'cleaner' but smelled like nickles.
it sure took the paint off things :D but the smell i miss, it brought out the grass smell.. almost like just after someone mowed.

JennyX, it does smell like dirt as well. Part of the allure for me...I think it adds to the "fresh" aspect.

Dang...I would not like the smell of rain there either. That stinks literally and metaphorically.
