@Skippyskiptic Not sure but the Barometric pressure causes the gas on your joints to expand thus inflammation and swelling happens.

@Skippyskiptic Storms come along with a low pressure front; this means that gases in your joints have less external pressure holding them in, so they tend to expand.

Arthritis is an inflammatory process which already constrains motion, but the expanding gases make your already poorly-functioning joints get more tight.

It's not a *huge* change in pressure (a few inches of mercury ["in Hg"]; at 25.4 mm/in, it can be 50 or more "mm Hg"), but the way persons with severe arthritis talk about it, it's clearly more than enough to mess with your sense of pain/discomfort. No doubt I am preaching to the choir.
