Coldest temp I've ever experienced was -54*C / -65*F in the month of January at a place called 'Mooseonee, Ontario Canada and which was ambient air temp with no windchill factor.
This little town of Mooseonee is near the southern tip of James Bay which almost everyone in the world has heard of before. For those who haven't heard of James Bay, by Canadian standards James Bay is a small fresh water bay about the size of Texas that is situated south of Hudson Bay.
Hudson Bay is a body of fresh water that's a wee bit bigger than James Bay who's geographic area would cover about the size of the eastern seaboard of the USA from Boston to Key West and inland from the US east coast to about as far as the State of Kentucky. James Bay forms the southern extremity of Hudson Bay.
Mooseonee is inaccessible by car and is only accessible by air or by railway and lies about 800 miles (1300 km) straight north of Buffalo NY for my American friends who are able to find Canada on a world map. 🇨🇦
