Every time my cousins start suggesting I move to NOLA and "join the rest of the family"…

I see something about their storms, which I don’t have to deal with in California…

But seriously, as long as Pop is here and might need me, I’m staying around.

I can relate to this, for sure, as far you staying where you are because of your dad. I doubt if I'd have stayed in Florida after I sailed here decades ago...if my father hadn't gone ahead bought a house here after my mom died.

You have your reasons for staying in California. Your cousins should respect that.

Speaking for myself, New Orleans wouldn't be appealing because it's in a red state. I realize N.O. is a blue city, but the state of Louisiana is mostly governed by right-wing Republicans. That would be a total turn-off for me.
@Rutterman It’s something I consider, too. My parents left the South because with their politics staying didn’t make sense. But now my cousins are all progressives, and actively political. I’m not sure how they manage, but they did fight to get LaToya Cantrell (first woman) elected mayor of NOLA in 2018.

I love the French quarter. It’s one of my favorite places to visit
@3Dogmatic I enjoy visiting. It’s the idea of living there, that I’m not too sure about.

@bijouxbroussard yeah, I don’t know about living there either.

There's a lot of places in the US that I would like to try to live ... but where I am I do not have:
- wildfires
- hurricanes
- earthquakes
- tonados
- mudslides
- volcanoes
- etc, etc, etc

Yes, I very occassionally get hit by the lower outskirts of a Boston Blizzard. I can deal with that so I'm staying put.
been there a few years ago. it was in 2009. even went to a monday night football game...saints vs pats. very interesting city

Yes, there are no storms in California. ;) But at least most of that state is above sea level.
@ChipmunkErnie That is true. My grandmother used to live next to one of the cemeteries with above-ground crypts and once explained to me why traditional burials were problematic.

@bijouxbroussard "Problematric" is a very nice way of referring to corpses floating in the street. ;)

You're a good daughter.
@LordShadowfire Pop’s originally from Tremé. I’ve asked him if he’s ever considered moving back; he says no, he wants to join Mom where she’s resting here.
