It’s Getting Colder Tonight, Lows in the 30’s…

Here in Central Oklahoma. Have to bring the birds inside from the sun room. Kiwi was hinting around for me to do it yesterday, she was saying “Music” like she wanted to come inside and listen to the radio.

@ProfessorPlum77 He liked men’s voices and would pick up the sass sometimes from them. One week I had Dr. Phil on TV (watched a soap opera and it came on after the soap opera). That bird started saying “Are ya stupid?” In the same tone of voice as Dr. Phil. That’s the kind of thing he would pick up and say. Another time he started saying “You don’t live here. Get outta here! Chit-chit!” I had watched a Charles Bronson movie where he was chasing hoodlums out of the neighborhood and shooting a gun.

@cherokeepatti Wow! You must have a great memory, since you can recall all of their antics!

How smart ! 😊

... I never knew birds could be so clever!

@dontbekoi Have had parakeets off and on all my life. But the birds I got about 19 years ago talked more than any other parakeets. I don’t know why. Maybe because I put them in the living room and then where they could see and listen to me cook and talk on the phone and listen to the tv etc. I had parakeets (especially females) ask me what I was cooking, what i was drinking, what I was fixing, what I was doing. I would show or tell them, show them the food on my plate and tell them each thing. They got better & better the more I interacted with them. One of the male parakeets overheard someone talking on the phone and the next day repeated 4 complete sentences from the conversation. The birds I have now will ask What do we have? When they want some greens. They will tell me thank you or Thanksgiving when they want something or are happy about something like going into the sun room when the weather is nice and the windows are up.

@cherokeepatti I am blown away. What great company they are! If they can imitate human language, I wonder if they can imitate other birds or sounds (like the telephone)? Amazing.

Do you have to clip their wings?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@dontbekoi I don’t clip their wings. Yes they can make other noises. I had one that could make a ripping paper sound, and one that could sing like a robin (we lived in an apartment where hundreds of robins would light down on the lawns in the morning) and one that could sing like a canary (back when Walmart sold canaries next to the parakeets at their stores). One of my male parakeets would whistle like a siren sound when he heard COPS tv show music.

@Stereoguy that temperature sounds perfect to me, especially after this long hot summer that has finally ended here.
