120 F. in Oklahoma in 1994. Fortunately that year I lived in an apartment with all bills paid so didn’t have an electric bill to pay.
134 F. In Death Valley in 1913.

@cherokeepatti sounds like a hot year. I'm sure any ac would've been a life saver

@caPnAhab The summer of 1980 was a record setter here in Oklahoma. We had 100 or more temperatures almost every day from the middle of June till September. Horrible heat and I had no a/c in my house. I’d wake up in the middle of the night to get a glass of ice water and touch the wall in the kitchen and it would be hot. It was stifling hot. Had a fan and a water cooler and they helped but it was still miserable. I had no a/c in my car either and if I wanted to go to town to get groceries I would wake up early and leave and get to the bank as soon as it opened, then go to the stores and get food, maybe stop for a cold drink at a convenience store and get home by 10 a.m. and it was hot in the car with the windows rolled down.

@cherokeepatti that death valley temp was never verified. Most people use last years 130° which was tied the year before though and which is still the worlds record.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Death valley 130° f (54.44° c) and the worlds record, not just a state record. Happened last year and tied the year before.

52.8 🤦♂️
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@YMITheWayIM How do you cool down when it’s that hot there? Yikes.
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
@cherokeepatti Well 52.8 is just the record set by one of the cities in my nation. My native city never went above 50. I was playing with ice all the day when that happened back in the June of 1995.

For Pennsylvania
111 degrees
What about in Pennsylvania? Researchers at Penn State found the state record for the warmest temperature was 111 degrees in Phoenixville, Chester County, on July 10, 1936. At the other end of the mercury, a frigid minus 42 was recorded in Smethport, McKean County, on Jan. 5, 1904.Feb 1, 2017

@bijouxbroussard Yeah no big deal, I was absolutely shocked when I saw 2021...
I felt a bit better seeing that it was supposively longer ago.

@bijouxbroussard I was going to say: I think the California record is not only the U.S. record, but probably the world record as well. 😧
