Illinois cop fired, charged with murder

I am, in a small way, encouraged by how quickly he was arrested and charged with murder, and by the fact that bail was denied. This one doesn’t require a months long internal investigation on whether the use of force was warranted in self defense.

I watched the video. He was just looking for some action. No way that feeble woman with the strength of a grandma, 10 ft away was a threat with that boiling water.
Even if he felt threatened, there are 10000 ways to avoid boiling water that far away without shooting someone!! You can just back off for once.

don't take this as ANY sympathy for the cop but..

I can understand his concern...she reported a prowler and when she opened the door - it took several minutes she starts off saying "don't hurt me"

they ask for her ID and she was really discombobalated

and then she says something about "I compell you in the name of Jesus" like she's trying to do an exorcism.

So they have a reason to wonder about her mental faculties.

BUT instead of shooting - all they had to do was back up and maybe talk to her through the doorway. The prosecutor said they didn't try to retreat - and the use of force was just...abysmal.

the cop has a suspect employment history - this guy couldn't keep a cop job.

I've seen the video, and it's sad and sickening. Grayson has been charged with murder and "official misconduct", according to reports I've read. I doubt if the best lawyer money can buy will be able to convince a jury that that cop did not murder Sonya Massey.
