When did carrying a pocket knife become controversial?

Mine isn’t even a particularly large or expensive one…very simple light frame with a flipper tab. Yet I use it to open a package or something and suddenly I get side eyed like a criminal 🤔🤦‍♂

I carry a German Army knife around with me. Basically a military grade Victorinox Swiss Army knife. Only became something I have to think about in the last few years because of some stabbings in my city.

What is scarier is there has been more machete attacks to the point that they are now illegal in public (not sure why they were not before).

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Yikes! As far as I know we don’t have a lot of that around here…if we did I’d carry something a little more formidable than a simple pocket knife.
@Zaphod42 Makes sense.

Unfortunately my city saw a large spike in drug use during the pandemic and cost of living keeps going up which has resulted in some more desperate and crazy behavior.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Thankfully it was just the cannabis dispensaries that saw that kind of uptick here…a drug that makes you way less prone to violence. Which is good, because gun sales also soared.
@Zaphod42 Sadly meth is the poison of choice here.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow oof, yeah, I’ve seen what kind of random violence that can cause. Nasty stuff.
