Who plays DND 5e?

These new updates are so annoying why even make spell scrolls if you can only use spells on your spell list? What garbage is that? It's not even like most characters can even make them unless they changed the crafting rules on them which they probably did but made them garbage

I’ve been trying to get into 5E, I play pathfinder though
@UndeadSona super jelly

@DisappearingTide Hell yeah love me some Pathfinder.
@CountScrofula it’s really great

I'm an obsessive tabletop rpg player/game master but I have kinda let D&D 5e be its own thing and run different games. 5e is fine for what it is but there's so many other games that I love playing around with - and also you get this kinda top-down decision from the corporation like patch notes to a video game and I never loved that.

@CountScrofula I've always kinda liked it but that's partly because before these were mostly optional fixes to oversights.

I mean some of it is interesting but tbh they might as well have made 6th addition and gone all the way.

@CountScrofula perhaps my other group would try something like that. After we finish play testing my friends game. I really want to run a pillars of eternity game though
Games are suppose to be fun. If you don't like the rules, change the house rules.

@froggtongue we'll see

@froggtongue Changing d&d rules is pretty hit or miss. But sometimes that’s part of the fun.
@UndeadSona In other words you're going to give it a try and see how the changed rules (not your house rules) goes to give it a fair chance. Sometimes what seems hard at first can become the fun challenge.

I played a short 5e campaign a few years ago. No one crafted anything though.

@Straylight Well currently I'm playing a BardLock (Glamour and what was Fey before the rule change) now have to decide what my new level split is going to be. Since I'm currently 7/2 and going 8/2 for a feat is clean and is going to lead to a ton of skills that I'll want. 7/3 I'll be teleporting like crazy. I'm mostly a Face with a bit of skill monkey since I enjoy roleplaying. I've basically don't deal damage ngl so I even entertained swapping to full bard here but that was vetoed (and wouldn't make sense based on my backstory).

It's Eberron and I'm a sharn native with high aspirations, like becoming known as the #1 bard in Korvaire which is already held by Luca syara (also a sharn native). That probably going poorly atm since my party and me in particular have gained a lot of infamy in the last two weeks.

@UndeadSona My favorite race (changeling) is from Eberron!

My longest running character was a level 11, moon elf cleric. She did play a fiddle a lot and had a high charisma, so people thought she was a bard.
The dm gave us all a boon and something to balance it at creation. So mine was she could study the stars to cast Divination as a spell like ability once a day (or I guess night). But in return, I was compelled to give away any money and non equipment valuables I had to temples to good aligned deities I came across.
UndeadSona · F
@Straylight That sounds so fun! Divination magic is busted
I haven't played 5th edition in a LONG while, it about a year after the big boycott fiasco that I dropped out of DMing and playing in general.
UndeadSona · F
@NeighFlowers I see! I don't think we ever stopped tbfh, but I could easily see us switching games eventually

Spell scrolls are historically the way to get more spell casts per day than you have slots available. I've honestly not dealt with spell scrolls in 5e, despite running and playing in the game. But I do remember that's how they worked in 3e as well. You needed to have the spell in your class list, OR have the use magic device skill. I think scroll-caster could be a pretty good homebrew feat to show people to cast spells not in their class list.
