Long story, but I guess I should try to explain. I’ve never played D&D before. So I play weekly trivia where I live in City A, and a subgroup of my trivia team also play D&D together, and they all live in City B. There’s a girl I like that I met through my friends that play D&D, and she’s also in their D&D group but doesn’t play trivia because she doesn’t want to travel to City A, so I rarely get to see her. So a guy in the D&D group made a post a few weeks ago in our trivia group message about a trivia event in City B tomorrow, which made me think I could maybe invite that girl I don’t see often. Well just yesterday I asked in the group chat who was going to go to the City B trivia event, and the guy who originally posted about it no less said “Sorry, we’re playing D&D that day”.

@JPWhoo Speaking as a big D&D person... D&D vs a Trivia Night, for those of us that have interest in D&D it's kind of like asking if we want a home cooked meal or a TV Dinner.
Trivia can be interesting and you can do some socializing. But unless you are super competitive it feels like a shallow experience to me.
D&D is more engaging and collaborative. Depending on your group quality you can go really deep or just skim the surface.
Trivia night has always felt like something people do when they go out to drink, the going out and drinking feels like the main event. D&D is more of the main event that sometimes but not always includes drinking.
As for derogatory things to call us, nerd is the typical go to.

@ViciDraco in my first band… we all used to play when on the road doing gigs. My drummer got us into it and it helped pass the time before getting our sets ready in a new town where we didn’t know anybody.
