Why do most Sonic the Hedgehod games crash? Are there online sites where I can play them without crashing?

For example, a few moments ago I played Sonic Autmn mix. It froze at the begining of the first level. Then I decided to play it on a different website to see if the game would work better. However, it still crashed. I'm feeling very frustrated about this.

I have almost every Sonic The Hedgehog game for the Sega Genesis on cartridge and a Sega Genesis console to play them on and in all of the times I have played them, they never crashed.

Your game choice is probably pretty obscure at this point right? Is it very common to have many different websites offering Sonic games?
