I understand this very well. What I hate the most are small stations where the train only stops for about 5 minutes, you have to get on from those narrow platforms with no digital signage so you might not even be sure if the train stopping is truly yours or it's something delayed from an hour ago.

@CrazyMusicLover ugh I just got my first train and the platform changed last minute on the app. It still left from its original platform though 😰
Its noisy and the fumes are so bad 😷

@Kuronekko This is even worse. 😱

Can you describe your worry to me? I live in an area where we don't usually use the train. I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what makes you nervous but I'm curious.

@SinlessOnslaught I guess. It's the feeling that comes with any place you're not familiar with
SinlessOnslaught · M
@HijabaDabbaDoo Ah. I understand.
SinlessOnslaught · M
@Kuronekko You'll be okay. You've got good intuition and that app that Hijabi mentioned. 😊

Just my own observation, from my own experience in Britain; I rather enjoyed the train system and found it logical to use. But, last time was 15 years ago, so, maybe it's different now
HijabaDabbaDoo · F
Download the train line app so you can keep track of the route, it helps because it'll tell you what number platform to go to without having to check the notice boards thingy when you change trains
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
@HijabaDabbaDoo Thanks lol, its a silly thing to get nervous about when I'm so adventurous in other ways 😅
HijabaDabbaDoo · F
@Kuronekko Nah, it's not. I used to be the same.
I still am when I'm taking on new routes but that's in general. Thank God google maps exist. That's been my saving grace so many times because I'd probably accidentally be in a different continent by now

@HijabaDabbaDoo oh yeah, I can't imagine having to figure it out on a normal map lol. I need to know the route back to front before I go.

Good luck. I love travelling by train, when they're on time.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I got over that as a teenager.
At 14 I had to travel from the USA to Germany, all by myself, with two switches of airplanes, then take a train with a switch in trains, then take a taxi. All unfamiliar with the language!

@DeWayfarer Okay. I won't ask anything else.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Musicman I have written about it serval times. Just that it could be a book on how to not raise a kid.
I was a free range latchkey kid. That speaks by itself.
Independent doesn't do justice to the term latchkey with kids.

@DeWayfarer I am sorry to hear that ☹

It’s easy all you have to do is sit and get of the right station you can always ask the attendants at the main stations if you get lost
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
@Monaschandroff86 some things are not so easy for me.
Monaschandroff86 · F
@Kuronekko ok you’ll get used to once you do it many times
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
@Monaschandroff86 unfortunately autism makes it as if you're doing everything for the first time lol
I hate changing trains along the way, too... just getting on a direct one is anxiety inducing enough.
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
@HootyTheNightOwl then theres the added fear of them being canceled altogether in this country 😅
@Kuronekko They're too expensive to be a regular thing for me anyway.
Twice the cost of an all day bus ticket to get from here to the same city that the train would drop me off at if the train station was easy to access.

I hope your first train runs on time and there is not the added stress of missing your connection
metaldog · 51-55, F
I love trains I miss them 🚂
Matt85 · 36-40, M
why? if you miss one train, you just wait for the next one (unless its the last train)
sit in an aisle seat and snatch snacks and drinks when they walk past

It should make you more nervous to not change trains. Who knows where you’d end up
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Depends on how fast it is going
SomeMichGuy · M
You don't have to do it like James Bond; they stop and everything.

@MartinTheFirst just sitting here waiting for my connecting train, choking on the fumes and getting rattled by the noise of trains just sitting in the station. Im finding it intense.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Kuronekko I also find the thoughts quite intense, like I don't need any music or phone when like that and can just sit for hours thinking. Sometimes I miss that feeling once I've gotten used to a route, I get so complacent once I do and might make a mistake.
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
@MartinTheFirst yeah that sounds like me. 😄
I love the train, ask a conductor to help You through the connection transfer, that's what they're there for.
