I got over that as a teenager.
At 14 I had to travel from the USA to Germany, all by myself, with two switches of airplanes, then take a train with a switch in trains, then take a taxi. All unfamiliar with the language!

@DeWayfarer I hope it went well.

@Musicman It definitely didn't go as planned. My aunt didn't even know that I was coming. Had to convince her that I was her nephew. Hard to do barely speaking the language. Lucky my cousin once removed knew as much English as I knew German.
@DeWayfarer WOW! What prompted you to do this?

@Musicman I was told to by my father and my half brother!
The tickets were non refundable and mom couldn't fly at the time.
She came a week later.

@DeWayfarer Okay. I won't ask anything else.

@Musicman I have written about it serval times. Just that it could be a book on how to not raise a kid.
I was a free range latchkey kid. That speaks by itself.
Independent doesn't do justice to the term latchkey with kids.

@DeWayfarer I am sorry to hear that ☹
