"Southwest Airlines is slashing 15 percent of its corporate workforce, approximately 1,750 employees, as the Texas carrier aims to boost revenues and shrink costs.
Mass layoffs haven't been seen at Southwest before, even during economic recessions and the COVID-19 pandemic. So when CEO Bob Jordan announced the layoffs to staff, he described it as "a very difficult and monumental shift."
"We must ensure we fund the right work, reduce duplicative efforts, and have a lean organizational structure that drives clarity, pace and urgency," Jordan said.
He stressed that the airline is dedicated to operating safely and that the objective of leadership roles is to support frontline employees as effectively as possible. "With the best intentions, the growth of our leadership and noncontract functions have outpaced our operation's growth for many years," Jordan said.

Where do you get the DEI connection from? According to AP this is from last month and is simply because they found themselves overstaffed in some locations and inefficient generally; also they have been offering incentives for people to leave for some time.

Why has it dismissed so many? Is it going bankrupt or been taken over by a much larger company? (The usual reasons for wholesale dismissals, or rather, reduncancies.)
