Im sick of all these god damn elderly drivers out today

Idiots! Get off the road
ArishMell · 70-79, M
A lot of older drivers are far better in skill and courtesy than a lot of young ones.

We take it you will of course be selling your car and handing in your driving-licence one you have turned whatever is the age you consider starts "elderly"?
Dacrowman · 70-79, M
@ArishMell they say our reactions are slower , which might be true, but we have experience of reading the road which gives us the edge
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Dacrowman Yes, reactions can slow with age, as do things like eyesight, so we need take that into account.

On the other hand, although obviously we cannot and must not generalise for any age group, more mature people are less likely to take needless risks that endanger themselves and others, and more likely to obey speed-limits and to treat other road users considerately.

From simple observation, the worst drivers are among young men with their first cars, courier-van drivers, taxi-drivers when not carrying passengers, and middle-aged men over-paid enough to afford fashion-versions of builders' pick-ups!

Among older, but not necessarily "elderly", drivers the most common "offence" is driving too cautiously, well under the speed limit in cars and conditions that would cope with careful driving up to the limit; so creating queues and engendering impatience in the following drivers. Curiously, a lot of them seem to drive at rough in-between speeds: 45mph on the 60mph limit roads, and 35-40 in the 30 limits! When not braking sharply for even moderate bends. The young petrol-heads just break any speed-limit!

Second to that perhaps are ones who will not move over enough on narrow roads in bad weather, forcing others to drive in the roadside mud instead. Ironically a lot of these are in off-road capable cars like Range-Rovers, but we mustn't get mud on our "Chelsea Tractor" must we, when driving to our second-home?

.
The generally-safe driving apparently applies to female drivers too. Some years ago, when the UK was still in the EU, the insurance companies were told by that august institution that they were guilty of sexual discrimination for charging women less than men for equivalent cover, even though the cost differences were based on real accident and claims statistics!
But you’re elderly
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@DancesForJabba Brilliant. Best answer 😂
buriedalive · 46-50, M
@DancesForJabba uh no im in my 40s
@buriedalive That’s old as dirt.
SteelHands · 61-69, M
The elderly were building maintaining and paying the taxes that bought paid off and kept those roads usable.

Be grateful we let you drive on them or we'll take them away.

I would never categorise, there's good drivers and bad drivers. Problem is most bad drivers think they're great drivers!
Dacrowman · 70-79, M
