that is absurd! I do wonder if it is either cost or pollution effective.

@samueltyler2 In a perverse way it does make some sense. Assuming a reliable grid isnt available. While Diesel in vehicles has its problems with pollution and efficiency. A static diesel generator, running at constant speed unto constant load is quite clean and very efficient. I would point out that most of the large long haul locomotives are diesel powered electric..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman wow, very interesting. I did not know that.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 I'm not saying its a great idea. But it isnt as bad as it first sounds, under those conditions...😷

@whowasthatmaskedman i can't even ride in a diesel car, or couldn't when there were a lot on the street, the smell made me sick to my stomach.

@samueltyler2 I am not a fan either. But these days I only drive a few thousand Km a year. So fuel cost or consumption isnt an issue.😷

@samueltyler2 AI Overview
Yes, diesel emergency generators typically run dirtier than diesel engines in cars. This is due to a major difference in how they are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). While both release harmful emissions, most emergency generators are not required to meet the same stringent "Tier 4" emissions standards as modern on-road diesel vehicles.

@BeachGirl47 do we believe that those were temporary? They look pretty installed.

@samueltyler2 My uncle works for a denerator repair company. He says that a lot of stationary generators run dirtier than those in trucks and cars. He did say some
run clean

@BeachGirl47 i know that my hospital used a diesel emergency generator. Between the smell and the carbon monoxide it produced, we forced it too be upgraded to natural gas.

@samueltyler2 Wow
Im not a mechanic..just saying what i was told
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 Remember that "Emergency" generators are just that. Many remote homes and farms run on diesel power 24/7. But like anything else. It needs to be maintained..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman i couldn't be near them. Also the PM2.5 released is very toxic to kids lungs.
