EV's are disposable appliances and basically an 'iPhone/iPad on wheels'

Does anyone in SW land buy an EV fully outright and retain it as a long-term value proposition, or are you all just leasing them for a few years, then getting rid of them for something else?

I only know one person with an EV, and he gets his leased and changes it every 3 to 5 years. He got rid of a Volvo (actually Chinese-made by Geely) full-electric XC40 just recently and replaced it with a snot-green BYD atto-something. Both on leases not fully owned outright.

I have an EV, two years now and love it. I have solar panels on my roof and never pay a penny for electricity, so I drive for free!! Sun is great. Love my car.

@Docdon23 If you can actually make that work for you that's great. Solar panels on roof are impractical for day to day suburban driving in a large urban area I'd think.

Do you fully own it, or is it leased (and how long is the lease term), and how long do you intend to keep it? What make/model if you don't mind me asking?
This is correct. An EV should be thought of in the same way youi think about the new fridge. with a similar lifespan.. Its just as well they are getting cheaper..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I've had my current fridge/freezer about 10 yrs and nothing wrong with it. No intention of replacing unless I choose to get a bigger one.
@zonavar68 Exactly. But the thing is the majority of people of people before now have NOT bought their fridges 2nd (or third) hand. They were bought new and will be kept until the fail or require upgrading. And that pattern will take hold with EVs other than fleet owned ones😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Not sure about other countries but the data I've seen suggests nearly all EV's here are not owned outright but leased and the majority of novated (three way) leases have 5 year terms before vehicle has to bought outright (balloon payment) or handed back to be swapped for another new leased vehicle.

I suggest most people will not buy outright because of all the unknowns. Just my view. I do not have an EV.

Nope, but I've nearly been run over by them a bunch of times.
@Thevy29 Take your earbuds out//😷
