Why buy an electric vehicle if you cannot fully 'fill up the fuel tank' ie. charge the battery to 100 percent?

Seems pretty dumb. Most people with a petrol or diesel vehicle don't stop filling up before the fuel nozzle auto-shutoff operates, meaning it's 100 percent full. Or go slow after the 80 pct full point, or fill slowly the whole way from mt to full.

What's the point of having an EV if you can only charge to 80 percent? Most people won't know how to stop a fast charge at 80 pct and go slow the rest but maybe charging stations are smart about this now.

You can charge to 100%. But a "fast charge" is 80%, because once at 80% the rate of charge the battery will accept is slower..Plus there is a penalty in the battery if you charge more than 80%. It degrades faster..😷
