Sound like parody of The Mist by Stephen King.
I once drove through a mist near Granada, relying on my sat nav. Lots of hairpin bends
When the mist lifted I was above the clouds, looking at the snow covered high peaks of the Sierra Nevada. I pulled over in a Transport Cafe and ordered a cafe con leche.

@AngelUnforgiven It was at the time, as I’d spent the previous night in a cheap hostel . I heard monotonous repetitive music all night long. It turned out to be old men gambling, putting their bets on!
