What was your most stressful driving experience?

Mine happened in the late 70s when my cousin was killed driving on icy roads. We all decided that we would drive to his funeral which in good weather took 5 hours one way. The night before we left it rained and the rain froze on the roads. I drove my uncle's car which had very bad tires and steering that tended to wander. It took us 7 hours to get there and when the funeral was over we drove back. The roads had not improved at all I drove straight through. On the radio the next day was the sad story of a young woman who was killed on the same highway I drove. I guess she was going too fast and couldn't make the curve She likely wasn't wearing a seat belt and the little Mustang she was driving certainly didn't have airbags. The radio didn't say that she was driving a mustang but one pulled out and passed me like I was standing still. 14 hours of ice road driving and I made it home safe and sound. I slept well that night.

I drive for a living so although I've never (thankfully) had a loved one pass from a collision, I'm expected to drive in the worst conditions while being rushed by impatient customers and other drivers and I know for a fact that there have been collisions and deaths on the same roads I drive.

I just take my time. Big improvement from when I was a new driver and a tailgater made me so nervous that turned super fast and flew off a small hill into the grass. 😅

I'm sorry for your loss and good job being safe yourself.

@SinlessOnslaught Funny story. I was doing a 5 hour drive in near whiteout conditions. The traffic was heavy on a winding hilly two lane road. Every once in a while my back tires would spin and my truck would fishtail. My passenger was very nervous and was hanging on to the dash so hard he was leaving indentations where his fingers were. After about 4 hours we were almost half way there when in disgust a little white SUV in front of us did a U turn and went back. I was thinking he has 4 hours of bad weather ahead of him as the weather suddenly cleared up about 10 miles after the guy did the U turn.
@hippyjoe1955 Ouch lol
