Subaru was recently awarded most reliable make by consumer reports. The dealer where I recently bought mine has a Crosstrek in the showroom that had 500,000+ miles on it!

I wonder how many times the engine and transmission and wheel bearings had all been replaced on that one with 500k on it because none of the above would be original equipment on that same car.

@swirlie No idea on the wheel bearings. They weren't mentioned. But the sign clearly says first engine, first transmission, 75 oil changes. 🤷♀

...and is the sales guy in the showroom wearing a yellow checkered jacket with a matching yellow bowtie who smiles a lot and calls everyone "my friend!"?

@swirlie Ummm ... no?? Is that a reference to something I should understand??
@sarabee1995
No, never mind!

@swirlie A Subaru engine and transmission can easily last 500,000 k if maintained properly.
In fact a lot of engines are able to go 300-500,000 if properly maintained
Wheel bearings and ball joints no but those are considered wear parts and are expected to have to be replaced every 75,000 to 125,000 anyway.

Then stick with miles, Meth.
And if you're still talking miles, then you don't know what you're talking about if you think that a Subaru engine and transmission will easily last 500,000 miles without rebuilding, even with proper maintenance. You're living in dreamland if you think it can.

@swirlie Nah, I'm really not. Seeing 300,00+ on a properly maintained Subaru isn't that absurd. Does it take astute maintenance and good driving habits sure. Most people don't do either of these. But there's lots out there that have hit the over 300,000 mile mark without a rebuild of the engine. They are definitely 300,000+ mile engines.
Fuck we had a Ford f250 at my last job with 305,000 without a rebuild and it's still running and on the road there. God knows how many it has in it now.
The idea that engines with 100,000 miles on them are out of their life is a gross myth. The problem is people just stop taking care of them after that point because they rather have new and updated. Not because the engines aren't capable of three times that.
Fuck Buick V6 can easily pass the 300,000 mile mark too and make it to close to 500,000 without a rebuild of maintained and taken proper care of.

@swirlie @MethDozer Now now peeps ... can't we all just get along? 🤣🤣🤣
Anyway... the story I got from the sales guy who sold me my car (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness) was that the 508,000 mile car was owned by one guy who worked all of New England visiting hospitals to maintain some kind of equipment (I forget what it was). So basically, he just drove highways 90% of the time which I guess is supposed to be easier on a car (according to my dad who was with me). The only thing in the car that showed the miles was the wear in the driver's seat and the rug under the gas and brake pedals.

If you Google "are there space aliens on earth?" Google will tell you that only humans exist on earth and extraterrestrial beings do not exist ..nor have EVER existed anywhere else in the universe, nor have ever landed on earth.
Keep in mind that Google is an American-owned search engine which is predominantly censored by the US Federal government to reflect the best interests of the USA, not the world at large.
For you to tell me to "Google it baby" when it comes to finding out about the life expectancy of a Subaru or in particular a General Motors product like an old Buick as per your previous example, where both, especially the American Buick, are capable of achieving 500,000 miles or more on the original engine and transmission without a rebuild in-between, is on par with Googling a request for the activity of space aliens who've landed on earth or who exist in the universe.
The answer is the same. Google will tell you what AI and the US Government want you to read, every time. And if you actually utilize Google as your primary search engine as a mainstay for your own personal research of various things, then you my friend are more lost in space than I've ever assumed you to be.
