OIL CHANGE

How often do you get the oil changed on your car ? Can I go a lot longer than what the manufacturer recommends ? How long ?

Check with car manufacturers in Europe... Some oil changes are 20,000 miles or two years whichever comes first.. Oil changes in normal cars at 5k or 6k miles are just money grabbing from the factories... Modern oils are way better these day
You can not change it at all for years but then you have to consider what all that sediment in the dirty oil is doing to your engine.

It is like it is getting sandblasted by all that dirt over time, erosion basically.

This can lead to all kinds of problems.

I would at the very min change it every 50,000 miles and even then I would be feeling a bit guilty.
Do what the owner's manual says.

I go by my meter in the car, when it gets down to about 10%
I change it

I go every 3,000 miles. Oil is cheap compared to a new engine.

Look at the owners manual for oil type and recommended mileage change...........
Using Synthetic oil, I change it every 5K miles..........Dealer says that Synthetic oil is good for 10K miles but they set the Maintenance light at 5Kmiles.............
One of our cars we only put one 1-2K miles a years. so I try to changed once a year......

Why do us cars require more oil the euro cars?

I know fuel quality is better in Europe... Does that make up for the difference?

You can go longer but you definitely should not. Do what the owners manual says.

Manufacturer specs. I'm not a mechanic, but I maintain my cars. Last one was 250k, most major parts original when I traded it in.

Modern cars: Most modern cars can go 5,000 to 7,500 miles between oil changes.

Synthetic oil: If your car uses full-synthetic or blended oil, you can go up to 10,000 or even 15,000 miles between oil changes.

Oil-life monitor: If your car has an oil-life monitor, follow its recommendations
