I remember when I was first learning how to drive, my mom insisted that I learn how to drive a stick shift

Around the time when they were very quickly becoming obsolete! I never really got the hang of it, but she insisted that I learn how to drive a stick because she believed it would be good for me to know for when I have to drive one later in life. In retrospect, that was incredibly frustrating because I don't think she understood just how obsolete they would be. It's been years since I first learned how to drive and what do you know: I have never been in a situation where knowing how to drive a stick shift would have come in handy. Looking back on it, that was more annoying than those old folks who dismiss improvements on outdated equipment as "idiot-proofing" them, lol.

Like your mom I think it’s important to learn stick because you never know when you’ll need it in an emergency
