Are Hyundai's and Kia's junk?

I was going through Reddit and reading horror story after horror story about engines suddenly failing on models as recent as 2020, along with various other problems. And then their customer service is apparently a joke? I've never owned a Hyundai or Kia so I wouldn't know any of this first hand. Maybe someone on here could share an experience.

I had a Hyundai Elantra for 8 years and never had a problem.

@WonderGirl1 Gee... I have a 29 year old W124 and never had a problem either, many of them have racked up one million or more miles - oh and I paid far less for it than you paid for your Elantra.. My insurance company just notified me to say that I was eligible to increase the insured value on it.. and the policy has zero depreciation... When (aside from never) has this ever happened to the owner of a Hyundai? When I see Kia, Hyundai, Corollas, Civics etc. on the road - I smile a lot and I do so quite frequently.... My 29 year old Mercedes is a dramatically BETTER car on any basis of reference than a brand new Hyundai or Kia is...

You think when I drive this and see a Hyundai on the road I don't smile?

@jackrabbit10 True enough but if you choose wisely and well initially the result is very different.. I may not know a lot but this vehicle.. I really know quite well, what is a good one, what is not a good one... and it will last longer on this earth than I will...
