Recently we got rear ended in a car accident. Our car was totalled.
If you were me, what car would you buy that is great on gas, safe, lasts long and will require low maintence?

Subaru Outback.
@DunningKruger Why do you recommend that?

@BlondilyOld We bought an Outback in 2008, and still drive it. It has been the best car I've ever owned.

During one of the various snowpocalypses we've had here over the years, I went to pick up the wife at work, and a lot of cars between me and her had slid off the road. We drove very slowly on the slippery roads to get home, but never had an issue at all until we pulled into our driveway. By that time, the snow was deep enough that we got stuck there. That is a pretty typical example of its performance over the years.

Subarus are generally well regarded for their safety records and their longevity. Maintenance has never been a significant issue. It's getting older now, but it only costs maybe $1,000 a year to get some aging parts replaced.
@DunningKruger That is impressive. Ill have to add that to my list. Thank you
