If you have the cash for a luxury sedan would you go for which and why?

I personally would choose a japanese for hassle free maintenance and a good resale value.

Germans are more fun but they come at a cost which isn't feasible for me along with the depreciation.

Lexus is made by Toyota which happens to be the highest quality car maker out there.

BMW cost a ton to maintain.

Ya know, when it comes to those privileged enough to own a BMW, they often complain about their cars more than anything. Maybe they expected better. Understandably so.

@CestManan It's highway robbery and given how they don't last long. I wouldn't spend a dime on them.

I've just seen way too many cars in repair than on the road.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Beatbox34 I have never owned one but I do remember back in the early 90's how BMW was THE car to have, kind of like how Tesla is over-rated right now.

What I want to know is - if BMW isn't really the fastest like a charger, not the most dependable like a Toyota, doesn't hold it's value, and cost more than the wages of sin to maintain...

Where is this prestige of ownership or even the real benefit?

I have nothing against BMW, I just wonder why they are (or at least were) over-hyped?

@CestManan I won't deny the fact that I'm not a BMW fan boy. I do love the older cars.

The newer ones are a pile of junk.

A friend of mine had a 5 series that got hit by a rock in the undercarriage. Now the car lost all the transmission fluid and didnt move at all. He spent a fortune to replace the transmission and his 15 year old Corolla saved the day lol.

Idk at this point, I think they're like iPhones. You don't need them but it's a prestige to own them and flaunt around.

@CestManan You can buy a Toyota Harrier, which is a badgered Lexus. They are often cheaper as people don't know what they are.

@Beatbox34 For a Corolla though, 15 years old is barely in the "used" stage.
Corolla is not fast nor stylish but cheap and easy to work on when it even needs it, and the things just don't die.
One of my cars is a 95 corolla about to hit 200K miles. I honestly think it will die of rust before it dies of mechanical problems.
@CestManan if u get tired of the rust sell it to me

I have a prius now and the body is fiberglass and plastic and the paint is like kiddie watercolor and I get a backache and bruised knees in the seat

but the mpg is good so I can drive to you before it quits and buy your corolla before IT quits

lol

@CestManan Corollas are not the greatest but they're amazing workhorses. They get the job done and never give up.

My 2005 corolla is still working great but I can't use it due to the emission laws.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Beatbox34 They tend to burn oil, which messes up the oxygen sensors.
That can be a problem in emissions counties.
Thing is, how old does a vehicle have to be in your county before it is exempt from emissions?

Plus, being a Corolla and their known burning oil issues, I wonder if they are more lenient?

The crap thing though about the oil burning - As long as you don't let the oil run dry, it will run fine but to fix that problem requires some internal repairs, basically the oil passages drilled out a bit larger and the piston rings replaced.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@CestManan I wish I had those problems in my car but the thing is my engine is clean. The car passes the smog checks too but the government passed a rule where vehicles beyond 15 years will "pollute" hence they should be scrapped.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Beatbox34 Jesus Christ! So the damned car could pass emissions and run well and all but just because of age they say it should be scrapped?

Is this some place in the USA?
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@Beatbox34 That sucks. Were I live a car can be driven no matter how old it is, as long as it can pass emissions and it doesn't have any issues that would make it a danger on the road.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@CestManan Yup the government has a rule that says the car should be scrapped or else it'll be impounded and scrapped by force of law.

This is in India.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@SubstantialKick A car should be given a chance if it can pass the emission test and fitness test. But sadly, lawmakers want new cars to be purchased hence this.
