At least you are not driving!!!
I used to commute from Queens to Brooklyn by car. 20 mile one way commute used to take me 45 minutes in morning, if I leave before 5:45am. Return commute was horrible, anything from 1 1/2 hour ( on good day) to 2 plus. It used to be easy when school is close. Add more time dirinv inclimate weather.

@Nick1 oh I totally can relate I understand absolutely. I used to drive to Uniondale Long Island from Brooklyn. It was crazy we left at 6:45 a.m. to get there at 9:00 sometimes we needed to leave at 6:15.
The worst thing is to work in the city and commute by express bus from Queens or any bus for that matter to get out of the city especially during United Nations week and the entire season of The Rockefeller Christmas tree. If there was a president or some type of funeral or parade event I would literally cry because I knew I wasn't going to get to work on time.
It is an absolute nightmare. And don't forget the impromptu snow storm that the city wasn't ready for I can really honestly tell you I spent 7 hours on a bus in a small snow squall inching my way across 6th Ave

I commuted in Chicago for many years and always drove my own vehicle. Some days it could be a nightmare and other days a breeze. I definitely don’t miss that part of life around Chicago at all.
I have a 7 minute commute to work. If it takes me longer I moan. Never taken longer than 15 but that's with roadworks. I live in London. If I worked closer to the city, Id give myself an hour to travel via public transport. Wouldnt even consider driving there 😬

It takes me about five minutes to drive to my office. I even come home for lunch and go back in.
Oh I used to live on Long Island and had a 45 minute drive back in the 90's.

I take a MetroNorth and Subway every day to downtown....I read or listen to books most of the way...been doing it since the old subway cars with barely working AC...
LaLumieri · 51-55, F
@fun4us2b I remember those cars I've been riding the subway for years to I don't ride them anymore... I take the buses. But I do remember the old cars I commuted to high school back in the '80s. I remember all the graffiti and the lacquered seats. I remember the Keith Haring artwork ... I used to listen to The Bangles on the one train heading into Lincoln center for school.

I leave at 6:15 am and drive to a train station to catch a 6:36 train into the city I arrive in my office by 7:10 am. I leave at 4:00 to catch a train home and get home by 5 pm. Not too bad

@BiasForAction That's a great commute. I've done that a few times. Actually it's kind of relaxing
BiasForAction · M
@LaLumieri it’s the best commute I’ve had in my career I used to drive in
LaLumieri · 51-55, F
@BiasForAction Good for you. I prefer to take a city bus to a private bus that gets me to my suburb away from the big tall buildings.... A nice quiet air conditioned comfortable bus

I used to drive one hour to a park-and-ride facility, catch a bus to the city centre (anything from 35 mins to over an hour), then walk 10 minutes. Nowadays I have a 15 minute walk from home to work 🙂
LaLumieri · 51-55, F
@SunshineGirl I wish I could walk to work Good for you I hope it's a nice walk
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@LaLumieri 10 mins is in the company of my daughter (en route to her school) so it is a very nice walk 🙂
LaLumieri · 51-55, F
@SunshineGirl That's a beautiful way to start the day

i have never been to NYC,i really want to visit there and experience NYC in person,my daily drive is simple,15 minutes to work with no traffic hassles at all. lol
LaLumieri · 51-55, F
@Ramrod okay I want your commute you win lol. I guess because I have lived in New York my whole life and worked in New York City for most of it it's kind of taken its toll on me. There are some great things about it I don't want to discourage you from coming here but then again trudging through it everyday even for the 5 minutes I have to get from one bus to the next It can be very frustrating. I absolutely crave small town life.

Williston, ND. Population 28,000. There is practically no rush hour. I drive 6 miles to work and 6 miles back home or roughly 300 miles a month.
