Do you trust a fly-by-wire car or one that has proper mechanical controls and functions?
I prefer proper controls

If the computer says 'no' on a modern car then it won't go even if it has mechanical/direct control parts. I like some driving aids, but I am 'nannied' by over-sensitive sensors sometimes and the brakes come on because a disabled person is riding along the pavement (sidewalk) slowly and the car senses that they are on the carriageway. It can be frightening.

I don't know that it matters because even manual transmission cars are computer controlled anyway.
Not really any such thing as a mechanical car anymore.
That being said this was a discussion with aircraft years ago and with redundant systems it doesn't change much besides mechanical controls ad extra weight.
Mostly it matters in applications where you are going to be trying to operate a severely damaged vehicle.
With fighter jets it was a concern because of the need to get the plane back on the ground after it has been shot to hell.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow True manual gearbox cars might have electronic engine control, but they don't have any electronic gearbox, clutch, and probably handbrake controls. They also generally would not have the ultra-woke auto stop/start feature, because that is incompatible with non-auto-gearbox vehicles. My 4wd and car both made in 1992 both have 5-speed manual boxes and the 4wd has no electronic engine management as it's a n/a diesel. The car has Bosch LH engine management.
Throttle, brakes, clutch, handbrake, door latches and locks, ignition, climate control, etc. are all fully mechanical linkages with no electronic intermediaries. 4wd also has no ABS (car does).
