I keep asking this question and never getting an answer. Take city like los Angeles a million people all driving electric cars. What happens at the end of the day and all of them plug in their cars at the same time? Also people ignore the fact that it takes as much fossil fuels to produce the cars as it does to produce gasoline.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@kodiac Wait 'till you find out that you can produce electricity without fossil. Nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric...
Besides, the argument "but the grid is still coal/diesel powered" is also moot: once the grid will be greenified all the EVs will immediately benefit from the upgrade; internal combustion cars will still continue to depend on oil/fuel, and it's easier and faster building a few power plants than replacing tens of thousands vehicles. Upgrading the grid is the govts' responsibility, which has the resources to do it. Upgrading ICE cars is the responsibility of the owners, which may not have the resources/finances to at any given time.
Of all the valid criticism one could make about EVs, the current unsustainability of the grid is a hella weak one.

The BEST direction is to build a LARGE number of SMALL scattered nuclear plants. The NIMBIES (generally EV driving lemming lefties) are a roadblock. @Elessar

SW-User
@jackjjackson If only they didn't cost a fortune and take a decade or more to build... Nuclear is the only energy source that is actually INCREASING in cost...
Elessar · 31-35, M
@SW-User Agreed, but a certain base nuclear capacity needs to be build as well.
@jackjjackson I'm no nuclear engineer but whatever configuration is deemed suitable to displace oil/gas/coal is good.

Quite the opposite, it's rightoid oil-industry bùttlickers the ones who have something to whine about every non-fossil source. Solars no because they're ugly, windmills give cancer (!?), etc-
jackjjackson · M
We moderates find the expensive inefficient energy sources pushed by lefties off putting. @Elessar

@jackjjackson You're moderate, and I'm a world famous pòrnstar

I’m awake and you’re asleeep. @Elessar

Exactly, step by step. A large amount of nuclear power plants spread out over a region helps distribute the load, increase availability and reliability. A sensible approach, at least during the initial near-term transition while long-term solutions are investigated and found. Many naïve Greta dears-in-the-headlights want to go straight to the final stage skipping any transition as if it would magically work overnight.

A surprising number of people simply do not understand this basic concept, much less understand how things actually work in the real world. Meanwhile China is abandoning thousands of EVs as 90% Of Chinese EV makers face bankruptcy.

Boo hoo for them. @PatKirby
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@kodiac no one can answer that, just like they can't answer the question of how they plan on safety disposing of the used batteries.

SW-User
@nudistsueaz I wish "they" would plan on how they're going to clean up the earth, air, and water that has been poisoned by decades worth of fossil fuel use in the meantime.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@SW-User you think fossil fuel is the only thing that has caused pollution???

SW-User
jackjjackson · M
So a bullshit meme is all you got douchebag? @SW-User

SW-User
@jackjjackson Prove me wrong, Budwick.
jackjjackson · M
How are EV’s, windmills, batteries made? @SW-User
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@jackjjackson using fossil fuel to mine the raw materials and provide electricity for the manufacturing process.
In the case of windmills, they will never produce enough electricity to cover the cost of material and power used in manufacture

Bingo. Do you think our friend here will ever get his head out of Biden’s ass? @Patriot96
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Patriot96 Have you any figures to back that statement up?

SW-User
@Zeusdelight Of course he has. He has many many memes 🤣
