Alfa Romeo EGR valve

I have an Alfa Romeo 1.9 jtd, the egr valve needs replacing. Would I need to take it to a mechanic to fit it or can a novice mechanic do it?

It's right at the front of the engine, so it isn't hard to get to, but I'd want at least someone who has worked on cars more than once or twice. A fairly experienced novice could do it, but a beginner I wouldn't trust.
