Any mechanics know what this might be?

My 2011 Prius is starting to vibrate at freeway speeds between 55 and 80 while the accelerator is pressed. Let off the gas and it smooths out. Press the gas even slightly and it starts again.

It’s more noticeable after driving for at least 10 miles, and less so when cold. It also seems to be coming mostly from the right front side.

Also, at freeway speeds when I press the gas there’s a “thunk” feeling like a small amount of slack is being taken up, and a similar feeling when I take my foot off the gas. There’s no actual noise accompanying the feeling though.

At low speeds there’s no noticeable issues in either drive or reverse. There’s no noticeable leakage anywhere that I can see, and when I lifted the car and shook the tires at the 9/3 positions and again at 12/6 they felt solid. The CVs also look clean and the boots are fine.

My feeling is it’s either the motor mount(s) as I just had the engine replaced, or that the CV on the right side is going.

Thoughts?

Don't go faster than 55. 😆

In all seriousness, you sound like you know more than I do about what could be wrong with it. I'd go to the mechanic who replaced your engine and tell them what you suspect.

@LordShadowfire don’t drive faster than 55??? This is SoCal…driving less than 75 on the freeway could get you killed 😂

I’m gonna go get it diagnosed tomorrow and go from there.
@Zaphod42 I remember learning that many years ago on a family road trip. Y'all crazy down there.

@LordShadowfire Wait, you guys are supposed to drive no faster than 55mph (88km/h?) on this *kind* of road?? 😶
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
@Elessar 65mph in most areas here, but 75 to 80 is the norm
