Would You Take A 24-Hour Vacation? Book A Flight For One City & Return Home Within 24 Hours to Sleep In Your Own Bed?

The was a guest this morning who was interviewed on the CBS Morning Show and he said he does that. Said that the cost of hotel rooms etc. made it worth it. He apparently has done it dozens of times. Spoke about his recent trip to Egypt to see the pyramids etc and got a souvenir shirt and photos and returned home. Wouldn’t need to check baggage or even a carry-on bag. Maybe a shoulder bag with money, passport, and other necessities. I bet the climate change people would throw a fit about that and they never asked him in the interview about that. Or about how jet lag can set it and need to sleep and rest before doing anything. His departure was from NYC so no connecting flights.

Now if time travel was a thing I’d do it in a heartbeat, would save all that time flying back & forth if you could instantly go somewhere interesting and come back before bedtime. Could do it on your best days when you are feeling good etc. and it wouldn’t take a lot of money either, just for meals or souvenirs. I’d be going to forests and other beautiful natural areas very often.

My friend got cheap flights to Italy, morning flight, then got a taxi to this town near the airport, had pizza and wine, had a bimble about and then went back for the flight home.

I’d definitely do it, I think the flights were about £30 return. Mega cheap deal.

@cherokeepatti
She left from England, so it’s not that bad, mostly waiting at airports, nice day out.

@Achelois If I lived there I’d go visit other countries like that too sometimes.

@cherokeepatti

She booked it last minute, we can get some good last minute deals.

I’d definitely be up for it, i mentioned it to my daughter and she’s game lol

Although id be inclined to stay over, I love being spontaneous.

I've done a few day trips to France and one to Belgium, and they were tiring. Coach load of ladies who had a nice lunch, then the coach tookus to the hypermarket for lunch before coming back.
After increased unreliability of flights .. no, even if quite cheap. I spent 10 hours in one incident and 8 in another in the last year waiting for an outbound flight to leave. I flew 4 times in that span. In both those instances only one flight was on time of 4 per trip.

@BrandNewMan yes he is not taking into consideration flight delays etc. Anything can happen like that and in such a short time span it can ruin the trip.
@cherokeepatti Tell me about it

"Tired" is a real thing. I drove with the ex and my son up to Montreal for a family vacation, and when we got there I was trash. All I could do was sleep! So this might be a possibility for Iron Man...but never for me.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou All it would do for me if it was even feasible would make me want to go back because even in a week you can’t see all the sights you want to see in a single trip.

I am doing it Sunday, driving to Disney World for cookies, food and shopping and coming home Monday. 7 and a half hour drive
@HiYou12

I cant imagine how that is worthwhile .. but you do you
HiYou12 · 51-55, M
@BrandNewMan we love it there, great price on a hotel was the kicker
@HiYou12 Been 2x w our sons when they were kids .. unless w grandkids, no desire to ever do so again. Enjoy yourself .. but no envy here. ;-)
I’ve done it several times but it is exhausting and good to wake up in one’s own bed
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@BiasForAction I don’t think I’d like the exhaustion part. There’s definitely jet lag involved. Plus dealing with the airport early arrival and the situations and people on the airplane.
i dont like feeling rushed. i like to take a couple of days and enjoy the area.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti My father was like that.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou Rushing from one place to another?
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti Yes. It was like he was ticking off a list of places when we traveled. We would drive through, basically, so that we could say we had "been there". He was a world traveler. He kept a Goode's Atlas and drew lines in red pencil to every place he had ever traveled. It was EVERYWHERE!
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
No that would be to much in a short time plus I've never been on an airplane before probably never will
Nebula · 41-45, F
I would feel rushed I think
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nebula rushed and exhausted. Not a good way to enjoy a day trip. I’d rather take a 2 hour drive to some scenic rural lake or forest, stop in cafes on the way and enjoy the time at the site.
calicuz · 56-60, M
That ticket to Egypt would cost about 1,600 dollars. There's no way I'm going to spend 1,600 dollars for transportation for a day trip.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@calicuz It was just this morning.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti

Ok, I hope the CBS morning show has a youtube channel.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@calicuz you might look on their website and see what they show.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
It takes at least twelve hours to get to anywhere nice outside of trumpistan.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Crazywaterspring I think the direct fight saved time. I imagine it takes more than 24 hours with the flights included to go from NYC to Cairo. It took 8 hours to go to Morocco once I got to NYC and then you have to wait to disembark from the plane, go through passport controls etc. Get a taxi to go where you need to go if you aren’t going to a hotel first. I think this guy is trying to sell a book or something, I don’t think one was mentioned but it sounds like he might be planning on it.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti He's probably selling a book or promoting a travel website.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Crazywaterspring Catchy title “24-Hour Vacations”. Will likely document all of his trips with stories, costs, and plenty of photos to fill a book
