We took our daughter to South Dakota years ago and keep going back to see Mount Rushmore, drive thru Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, etc. Hard to keep away from the Black Hills and other scenery from those other states.
Mount Rushmore. SD
Shoshone Falls, ID
Tetons, WY

@JovialMoose Thank you!
Isnt it beautiful there? 😍
JovialMoose · 51-55, M
@Blondily It certainly was... although we got hailed on (badly). But I guess it made the "Wild West" live up to its name.

haha@JovialMoose
I luv it when they have thunder storms.
We went to Wall and watched an electricfying storm. Never see anything like that in my state, Wa.

In 2003, I think, My family took a cabin on a beach in Oregon.

I spent a week tossing beached jellyfish into the ocean, building things in the sand. I even saw men on horseback galloping down the coast line. After them, I picked up a whip I assumed one of them had dropped and I hurt myself with it.

Most memorable vacation I've been on

@caPnAhab That sounds great 🙂 Sorry you hurt yourself though. ☹️

Never been on vacation. I'm too broke to afford one anyway. I did get suspended from work for 2 weeks, I spent it camping on a beach.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@Musicman It was very nice. Carrying my gear over the sand dunes sucked. (The camp spot was 5kms away from the car park, had to walk it.). I was able to catch enough butterfish each day. And it was coming to the end of spring so there was plenty of native fruits and veg.
A king tide during the night almost swamped me. But it was a shame I had to go back to work.

@Thevy29 That sounds like a good time. Did you ever camp again?
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@Musicman Used to do it as often as I could. It kind of helped being the Venturer Scout leader. I'd take them up through the Flinders Rangers along the Heysen Trail. Or among the many beaches and interstate big camps.
Only once did we get to camp on the beach at the very start of the Great Bight SA. To our left an endless beach with no foot prints. To the right the majestic cliffs of the bight disappearing in the distance. With the whales swimming around. Sadly I didn't have a camera at the time. And the traditional people don't let anyone out there all that much.

New Zealand. I went out for a friend's wedding and spent a few weeks travelling around North and South islands.

@SW-User Any good pictures you could show us? 🙂

@Musicman It was a long time ago, old fashioned film. I'll dig them out and see if any are worth scanning

My favorite was the first I ever took as an adult without my parents. I was fortunate enough to be with someone familiar to the area and we just went everywhere and anywhere and stayed in different places and I got to do anything I wanted, including visiting a local grocery store, which is just one of those silly odd things I really love in a strange place. 😂😄
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JustNik That sounds awesome! When we travel I always enjoy going to the local grocery stores to see what they look like. 🙂 So where did you go on this vacation?
JustNik · 51-55, F
@Musicman out and about the black hills and spearfish canyon. He had been stationed near there in the air force and knew it well. A fun and beautiful place to explore. 😄

It's honestly a tie. March 1979, Walt Disney World. I was 11. To a kid, it seemed like an entirely different planet.

November 2002, LA. I had never been to Cali at all. Went with my now ex-wife, but it still was massive, saw some great shows, had a friend who was a Disney/ABC VP and he brought us all over the lot, walked on a set used for Alias, he drove us all over Hollywood. We spent time on the Sunset Strip. It was killer.

@uncalled4 That sounds amazing! 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Christmas Vacation was good, but ths first was the best :)
@Musicman When I was a kid we went to the Oregon coast every year, the funniest was at the Newport Marine Center, where there is a live octopus you can pet, and the creature touched my mother's arm with a suckered tentacle, she screamed and bolted to the other side of the room faster than the Flash.

@NativePortlander1970 Lol!!! 😂 That had to be a sight to see. Lol!!!
@Musicman Everybody there laughed.
