Why are there a lot more gay people now than 50 years ago?

I think it's the same amount of people deep down. Just more are allowed to express it and have it accepted.

I don't think the % has changed that much, just that it's more open, surely it's better to know than people have to be fake about it

There aren't more gay people. They're just more open about it now that it's not as demonized.

People have been coming out of the closet. It's not like they didn't exist, it's just that they haven't felt supported enough to feel comfortable with who they are. Some of them, it's taken years. And some never made it to be who they truly are.

Think about what the lgbt community went through back then. Sexual orientation was not a protected right. People were more afraid of coming out back then.
