I could finally be my own person, and not pretend to be someone I'm not. Most importantly, my true male self.
I had to learn how to be independent the hard way, bc I was always dictated by mom before I moved out, but it was well worth it.
There were times I had to choose between food and paying my bills, but I somehow made it work, and that gave me a feeling of accomplishment. Something I'd never felt before.
I also felt more relaxed bc I didn't have to constantly be ready to do whatever chore I was ordered to do. Anything from taking a shower to taking care of my much younger sisters 24/7. (I was only allowed to shower when told to do so)
Most importantly, it made me realize exactly how badly I'd been treated my whole life and how wrong it was.
Took me many years to become my own person completely, but it was well worth it.
