Why do I feel so empty? When I'm hanging out with my friends, I'm the most lively person but when I get home and I'm all alone, everything just breaks down on me and I just started crying.

Feeling lonely and being alone are two very different things. I usually feel lonely in a crowd, because I don't feel like I can be my true self around them. But I'm at ease at home alone with my cat.
