Funnily enough Hitler said something similar about having faith leading to saving a country. I don't have exact words, but he espoused the belief that generals needed to have faith in National Socialism in order to overcome the barbaric communists (the ones they were pretty spectacularly losing against in 1943-4 when this belief became prevalent) and win the war. It wasn't the stated reason but pretty obviously influenced the firing of Erwin Jaennecke during the defence of the Crimea after he told OKH it was a hopeless task and that they should evacuate. The doctrine Hitler believed in which I'm calling "Festerplatz" requiring defending cities to the death of entire divisions also played a role
