Trader Joe’s new passion fruit sorbet is EVERYTHING

I have been obsessed with passion fruit since my family and I vacationed in the Dominican Republic when I was 19, where we all tried it for the first time. They had endless passion fruit at the buffet at the resort we stayed at, I probably ate at least 50 whole passion fruit during our stay there.

If you haven’t tried passion fruit, it’s basically fruit caviar, you cut it open and eat the little seeds covered in delicious orange slime with a spoon. It’s very tart, so you’ll generally wanna sprinkle a little sugar on top. It has the most aromatic, archetypal tropical flavor you can imagine.

On that trip my parents became enamored with it as well; after we got back from the trip they began growing passion fruit in our backyard. The kind we had in the DR were the big yellow ones; we grow smaller ones with a purple exterior. They’re just as delicious as the first ones we tried, of course.

2-3 weeks ago Trader Joe’s began selling passion fruit sorbet, and OMG, it is perfection. A lot of passion fruit juices and products can be really overly sweetened, but the sorbet is really nice and tart. Has an amazing, pungent, passion-fruity flavor. It tastes like you might as well be eating frozen passion fruit purée without the seeds and just enough sugar.

Next time I go, I’m getting 3.

What is the added sugar content? And if you are eating an entire container in one sitting, you are way over any reasonable portion size.

@MarkPaul all sorbet has lots of added sugar, that is the way it it is made. The containers do state the size of a portion and the nutrient ingredients.

@samueltyler2 Well, that's the problem. All that added sugar is neither good or helpful. It's basically empty calories with no added benefit to your daily macros.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@MarkPaul there is really no such thing as "empty calories, " just calories. What do you mean by daily macros?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@samueltyler2 An "empty calorie" signifies calories with no added benefits like nutrients. "Daily macros," or macronutrients, are the three major nutrients we should consume each day in the largest quantities: carbohydrates, fats, and proteins for health and aesthetics.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@MarkPaul all calories provide energy for your body to function, thus they are not empty. You do realize that the body breaks down much of what we eat into sugar for use as energy.

@samueltyler2 Sugar is the most toxic thing anyone can ingest into his/her body. It is an empty calorie because it does not provide any practical benefits. Sure, you could argue it tastes good... perhaps. But, that is not a nutritional benefit. Therefore, it is indeed empty.

@MarkPaul go join RFK junior and his group of uneducated bureaucrats. How many times must I tell you that calories are important for metabolism. Should anyone eat purely sugar, of course not, but dot we have the right to eat what we desire? Are you wearing your red hat only sometimes?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@samueltyler2 I'm not telling her what to eat. I'm just giving her expert nutritional advice that she can accept or reject.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@MarkPaul expert? Okay if you are an expert how am i to even know that. Do you have credentials showing that?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@samueltyler2 Yeah, I have credentials. No one is disputing calories are important. I'm not promoting not consuming calories. I'm all about making each calorie count with nutritional while you seem to think all calories are created equal.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@MarkPaul i never said that, I said term empty calories is incorrect.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@samueltyler2 Well, you would be wrong. It's a common and correct term within the nutrition practise.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@MarkPaul ha, ha, sure i differ with your words, so I must be wrong! You are laughable.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@samueltyler2 You know, there is no shame in acknowledging you were wrong. Make learning a life-long endeavour.

@Zeuro Well, I do have credentials. And it's not surprising that you jump to that kind of conclusion just to be contradictory and hostile. And I find your claim you only eat a few spoon-size portions a day... suspicious based on... well let's just say based on your lack of self-discipline and constant craving for attention.

If you took the time to study that you put into berating and yelling at me you would know there is no nutritional need to ingest "added" sugars since enough (all you need) are naturally in fruit and vegetables. Now, I suggest you moderate your craving for treats and put yourself on a more responsible and fact-based regimen.

You can thank me later.
