Personally, I think more about the Visigoths who conquered and sacked Rome, and about the Mongol empire under Genghis Khan, who conquered the Visigoths and more territory than any other ancient conquest. I think it might be because of the Even-More-Alpha male thing.

@ElwoodBlues actually that wouldn't have happened if I'd have been in charge back then. I would have coordinated a vigorous defence and stop the Visigoths. But I suppose I would let Ghengis Khan be one of my puppet rulers because I like his fighting spirit.

@JudgeHolden You might want to check out a book called "The Lives of the Twelve Caesars" by ancient Roman author Suetonius. There were really only six Caesars, Julius thru Nero, but he carries on for a few more emperors.
Overall, those who ruled Rome found it a risky job:
If you'd been in charge back then, you'd have had a 33/77=43% chance of being murdered in office.
Overall, those who ruled Rome found it a risky job:
The Roman Empire was ruled by 77 emperors between 27 BC and AD 476 (503 years); ... 30 of the 33 murdered were killed by the sword or dagger (5 were beheaded), one was strangled, one was hanged and one was killed by stoning.

@ElwoodBlues sorry, you're not quite correct. You need to adjust those numbers for an Alpha Apex type

@JudgeHolden there's no need. I respect your way of the Empire. I respect my way of seeing the empire.

If N = number of times per day, then
N = [testosterone level / weight] x [BMI]^2 x (square root of number of women he offends in a day)

Rome had its time in the sun. As an empire it failed itself and settled into the onset of nightfall in the trash bin of history. But many nations did.
