Do u believe guns should be banned in the US ? 🚫

This year we have had over 300 mass shootings already and counting. This problem has gotten so much worse. I mean it is really bad out here now. What do you think should be done though. I mean should we ban guns or do nothing at all. Or maybe we should create a system where if you are over the age of 21 you can own a gun. And make it a felony if you shoot someone who lives
No that won't work either. What shall we do. Comments. 🤔

NO gun should ever be banned in this country. Everyone should carry a weapon. Mass shootings by a lone gunman would never happen.
Having personal weapons is why other countries fear invading the US.
@GoingDownSouth Wow.............what is your favorite color of Kool Aid?
@anythingoes477 RED WHITE and BLUE !!
@GoingDownSouth Asking for a friend..........has the GOP and their owners.......the NRA............agreed on a number of dead kids yet..........1,000....5,000....10,000...when FINALLY they give an inch on background checking the morons that are killing kids like it's their jobs?

We don’t have as much of a gun problem as we have a mental health problem that no one wants to properly address… Every mass shooter has something in common besides a rifle… THEY ALL HAVE PSYCH ISSUES… Until that is addressed, Mass shootings will continue.

@Bodymindsoul Well said i agree!!!👏👏👏👏👏
@Bklynbadboy12 thank you
I sincerely doubt there has actually been 300 mass shootings so far. Not saying mass shootings don't happen, and not saying they aren't a problem. Just questioning the numbers.

Mother Jones tracks mass shootings, and in one report, detailed several. A few things I noted. First, there is no standard definition of a mass shooting. It differs from group to group reporting it. Second, the majority of mass shootings (about 60%) were forms of domestic violence, i.e. family annihilators. Those happens far more often than shootings at schools, malls, clubs, etc. but we rarely hear about them. Third, handguns are the most common firearm used in mass shootings...roughly 65%. But it's almost always when an AR-15 or some other military style rifle that gets the attention.

The mass shooters who attack schools, malls, clubs, etc. are looking for a gun free zone where several people are in a relatively confined space...where escape isn't easy.

The Columbine shooting happened in April of 1999...24 years ago. Prior to that horrific event mass shootings were quite rare. So here's my question...what really happened that suddenly caused this relatively rare event to become more common place? Why aren't the manifestos of these killers being released?

I don't believe banning guns is the answer. Guns have been around far longer than the mass shooting craze. The AR-15 has been available to the public for 60 years. The technology behind semi-automatic firearms is more than 130 years old. If the gun itself was the issue, wouldn't the issue of mass shootings have manifested itself far sooner?
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
Something is badly out of whack with American society. Looking in from the outside, it definitely would make sense to have much broader restrictions on guns; but there is also some deeper collective sickness at work making all these killings happen.
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
@ServantOfTheGoddess Parents have lost their power, teachers have been stripped of applying responsibility and the police have been decimated of any authority. Where does this leave the sum of it all?
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
It's a copy cat culture issue.
What was the first mass shooting that pops into your head?
Probably Columbine. It's most peoples first one.
In the 70's, probably earlier than that, news wouldn't report a suicide by a celebrity because it would cause a crap ton of copy cat suicides. No lie. Look up "Copy cat culture and suicides".

"Mass clusters are clusters of suicides localised in time but not space, and have been attributed to the dissemination of information concerning celebrity suicides via the mass media."

If you ever doubt that we live in a copy cat culture just take a gander at TikTok. Everyone is doing the exact same things.

So anyway, the news has to stop advertising mass shootings. It's proven to work with suicide why not with this?

REMsleep · 41-45, F
I do not believe that guns should be banned in this country or any country.

It is our constitutional right to own firearms so for this reason I believe that attempting to erode our constitution in anyway is horrible for the country and any of our rights can be justified to be taken away next.
Also we already have soooo many guns in the US that banning them will never keep them off of the streets. It will become similar to the prohibition era where there is bootlegging, illegal sales, increased gang activities due to arms sales becoming more profitable as guns move underground increasing violence. Good law abiding people will feel compelled to break the law to purchase a gun or they will be vulnerable and at a disadvantage to law breakers and criminals.
The anwsers aren't simple. Updated legislation regarding additional restrictions and monitoring/restrictions of certain gun sales are perhaps one piece to the puzzle.
The MAIN part of the problem is societal. Just as we have had an increase in random people pushing others onto the Subway tracks in NewYork, the moral and mental fabric of our entire nation is crumbling. The majority of the people participating in these mass shooting have displayed odd, concerning, antisocial, alarming behavior for years while those around them did nothing or were not really equipped to help. People, especially men are increasingly lonely, angry, radicalized online and ready to die and make others hurt. Mental illness is rampant. Our society facilitates mental illness and instability. We have to shame killers and those who glorify killing as well.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@REMsleep Mental illness is anecdotal. I strongly believe that there are deeply broken individuals or some that have some sort of trauma or bad energy in their spirit that makes them kill.
Budwick · 70-79, M
DON'T BAN GUNS.

Instead, put crazy people in protective custody to get the help they need to protect them and society.

Baremine · 70-79, C
@Budwick @Zonuss works better than anything you suggest.
I think the GOP and their owners..........the NRA will eventually screw honest gun owners. I think the public has had enough of them doing nothing as the body count piles up. It takes VERY little to convince others you at least care and are willing to do SOMETHING to help this problem..........and it becomes just as glaring obvious they don't care when we can all see they have a screw it...let 'em die attitude.

Giving in on little things would help a lot. Like agreeing to simple back ground checks. A Red Flag law. Banning silencers. Things that in the scope of things are not huge concessions.......and does not the legal gun owner one bit........but are always flatly refused. Those hard line refusals to give an inch as the body count rises will eventually cause a major backlash against ALL gun owners. When it does the NRA will realize that giving up ONE thing here and there that didn't actually have anything to do with the right to own a gun would have been the right approach...............but by then it will be too late. Starting in 2024 the Sunami of new voters will speak. Millennials that are now old enough to vote...... will vote Republicans out of office and the protection for the NRA at the same time...... as they remember hiding under desks as the GOP said "thoughts and prayers............and screw you." That generation has had "thoughts and prayers" up to their necks and it's not playing well.

The hardline GOP/NRA approach to this will backfire soon and when it does it will be hardest on those it should not be......the law abiding gun owners.
reubles · 41-45, M
No, I think it should be incredibly expensive and incredibly difficult to obtain and to keep, with rigorous background checks, psychological evaluations, gun safety courses, various permits and licenses required, a gun registry where you need your guns registrations and insurances renewed every year (just like vehicles), zero tolerance for ownership if you are deemed unfit to carry, no violent offenders, random safety checks by the state where they verify your firearms are safe and in working order, mandatory IQ tests, annual gun safety courses that must be attended or your licenses and permits are revoked.
@reubles those are some great ideas. The problem is it's not feasible. They can't even enforce the gun control laws we have in effect now. One of the mass shooters was flagged by the local red flag laws. Nothing came of it.
I also think making it incredibly expensive will be argued to be unconstitutional as gun ownership is a constitutional right. They'll pretend they care about the rights of the poor to shoot that one down.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
Gun ownership should be strictly controlled in America as it is in many other countries. That being said it’s clear it’s never going to happen so the slaughter of innocents will continue ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

No. There is no reversing the damage done to the US. At this point whatever upheaval is coming should just be hastened so we can get it behind us. Like breaking a bone so it will heal back correctly.

@Eternity We just had a pandemic. 🤔
Firegod74 · 46-50, M
When they say 300 mass shooting it includes gang violence with multiple victims. It really messes up the conversation. So no. I dont think a gin ban is going to have the affect you think it will.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Firegod74 Of course it will includes gang activity. But a lot of them are school shootings too. As well as work place violence and public shopping facilities. No the conversation is fine if we speak truth. 🙂
Bklynbadboy12 · 31-35, M
Nope the guns aren't the problem? Let's address the real problem and that's mental health in America. It's time we do something about that guns don't kill people. People kill people we have hundreds of thousands of people in Americans that are licensed to carry and they never kill anybody. It's the people who have guns illegally that are doing all of the killing who didn't go through the proper channels and didn't have the proper background checks. Lets face it you have to have some real mental issues to go shoot up a school full of kids or pray with people in church then open fire on them
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Bklynbadboy12 So because the majority of mass shootings are done by Caucasian males.
Do we include Black gangs when we talk about mental illness.
The narrative doesn't work here sir. 🤔
specman · 51-55, M
No I don’t think we should ban guns. We should study the mass shooters and what we find out about the things that might have made them snap and either start some programs if we don’t have them already to start improving those issues at hand.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@specman Oh wow Sherlock. We have had almost 50 presidents in the US

I'm British so the average person doesn't have the right to bear arms, in comparison to Britain, homicide is four times more likely per million people in America but there's not an easy answer to this, if guns were banned and an amnesty held, the people armed would be the criminals. Better to focus on increasing access to education, affordable healthcare, affordable housing and improving outcomes that limit the reasons people feel they need to carry a gun first.
rfatoday · 61-69, M
My guns stay in my safe. The only one with access is me and will always only be me. Any questions?
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@rfatoday Do you have any questions. I got guns too.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Banning guns in the US is hopeless. 50 juristications. More guns than people.. Its a lost cause. Nor will most people register guns if the government decrees it.. The people are scared of the government. (And who can blame them?) The best I think you can do is make the last owner of record of a gun culpable under criminal and civil law as an accessory to any crime the gun is used in...That will make people report any theft of guns and the sale of any guns they dispose of..😷
th3r0n · 41-45, M
Has nobody thought how improbable it is that these people just got the idea to start shooting up areas when gun control proponents just happened to be pushing hard with strong opposition?

Anyone who is against the right to bear arms is against the US Citizens, and should be executed
@th3r0n I disagree with executed, but bannished to Canada would be fair.

I absolutely agree that these shooting are not coincidence. Laxed law enforcement and hopeless, inept leadership are the reason for the uptick.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@GoingDownSouth one step further, they're being rigged up and set up intentionally to make people think guns are bad

If people were intelligent enough to think things through further, they would realize mass shootings wouldn't happen and couldn't happen if 80+% of the population was armed at any given moment

I don't carry a gun, mostly because of my martial arts abilities (and because knives are versatile tools as well as potential weapons and therefore suit me better), but I know psychology and I know people, and I know that these criminals are cowards for the most part, and want nothing to do with an even fight, and the people being set up to perform in mass shootings wouldn't have the guts to try it if everyone was armed; even if they did it would be very short lived
calicuz · 51-55, M
There will be no need for a ban when the new economy starts. American Citizens will no longer be able to buy guns unless their "score" is acceptable, and I have a hunch that no one's score will be acceptable. They'll basically get around the Constitution that way.
calicuz · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman

Sorry, it should have said "new economy" 🤷‍♂️
Carla · 61-69, F
How about we disallow the enormous amount of lobbying money that is at the core of the gun violence deniers desire to deny.
@Carla Ban all lobbying to start. Automatic death penalty for mass shooter. And never consider sanity as a defense for any violent crime. All violent crimes against other citizens are subject to death penalty.
People that make yhe decision to intentionally violate a US citizen get automatic death penalty.

badminton · 61-69, MVIP
The U.S. urgently needs a federal assault weapons ban. A license to buy a handgun should be required. To get the license would require a background check, photo and finger-prints and a psych check. A mandatory gun safety training class required before a person can buy a gun.

There is a legitimate need for civilians to have guns for protection; store keepers, self-defense for women, etc. But we urgently need safety restrictions. With Freedom comes Responsibility.

@Zonuss spoken like the idiot you are. You are absolutely blind if you can't see the problems the worthless democrats have caused. But in all reality the big problem is not guns. The real problem is people have turned their back on Almighty God. This whole mess is because of Lucifer and his desire to be God. Jesus Christ won the victory.
