No one gets to heaven on an hour and a half a week. It's the rest of the week that matters.

@goliathtree I thought it was the 80;20 rule.

@Zonuss Thanks for BA

I pray on my own terms and in my own time. Have nothing against church. I really enjoyed the last church I went to but itโ€™s and hour and a half away.

I've never been to church. I'm sure the place would catch fire if I walked in

I grew up in a Baptist church. I am from the south, and I went every Sunday for the first 18 years of my life. Deep down, I always knew the religion didn't resonate with me. No religion does. I know that it is manmade. It is an interpretation of someone's relationship with the Divine creator.

I am agnostic. I believe that there is something greater than us. But I believe I am in control of my relationship with the creator. I don't have to seek religious doctrines created by man to have that relationship with Source (my name for what most call God).

I don't shit on people who do believe in Christ or any other organized religion. I still listen to gospel music, and I even resort to passages from various religious texts when I feel down. I see the beauty in it. And I see the good it does for people. It creates a sense of community. I even go to church with my Christian friends from time to time. It feels good for the soul to hear a good sermon/message. But my relationship with the source or creator is personal. I owe no one an explanation of how I speak with it. Or what makes me feel close to it. But I will share when asked. It feels good to get to know Source without feeling confined to a religious text.

I won't go to hell or to those forsaken places that people think he has waiting for me. He (and I am not giving it a gender, but it's easier to refer to it as a pronoun in some instances. I am choosing to use He), He knows my heart. He knows that I am good and that I choose to do good each and every day. He knows that I value my relationship with him. I also value my relationship with the other good spirits in my life. My ancestors. I thank them each day for guidance. So, this is why I no longer attend church regularly. I have found what feels good to me spiritually.
I had deliberately stopped being regular going inside any religious centre.

God Is Within but I do miss doing certain stuff that was done while inside a religious place of worship.

Ask your driver.

I used to go when I was a child Then in my young adulthood, I got it in my head to try a UU church but only went once. Then during the pandemic, I tried again at a non-denominational church, and went a few times online. I actually liked this service. I think about going in person sometimes, but prayer is such a private and individual thing for me. I think I'd only go to church for the social/communal aspect, or maybe to join the choir.

@blindbob Thanks for sharing.

I never felt it... as a young child my parents sent me (they didn't go) to a small Methodist church... didn't get the whole God and Jesus thing, just couldn't wrap my head around it. I quit going (parents gave up trying to send me) and all through my childhood and teen years I would go on occasion with a friend to their church (various religions). Still couldn't get my head around the concept of all these different religions and gods.

Then I went all around the world for the next 20 years of my life and was exposed to various beliefs, religions, etc. Still nothing, still never found one I could completely wrap my head around.
WaryWitchWandering ยท 36-40, F
I was forced to as a child, and to do CCD and make communion/confirmation. I stopped going after on my own.

I donโ€™t follow any specific religion.
I would like to go back, but haven't been since the pandemic. I got used to watching it on tv. I will go eventually.
Lostpoet ยท M
I no longer believe in the gospel and principles of the church i grew up in. Although i did see a youtube clip of the last Conference meeting where someone reminded everyone that we are still the church of jesus christ and the ladder day saints and not the church of Moroni or Joseph Smith.
Zonuss ยท 41-45, M
@Lostpoet What stopped you from believing.๐Ÿค”
Lostpoet ยท M
@Zonuss The internet and reading about mormonism and joseph smith outside of what i was taught.
blindbob ยท 41-45
@Lostpoet That's my problem. I just don't believe a lot of it.
Heavenlywarrior ยท 36-40, M
Use to be SDA. Now I just live but still believe the sabbath as a day of REST. And RELAXATION. My weekly vacation to enjoy this earth as naturally as possible enjoying Mother Nature as much as I can.

But religion is definitely a BOX. Itโ€™s good to fellowship and have that support or maybe hear praise and worship sing and glorify God. But I donโ€™t get into the religion itโ€™s a title or limitation to The All I Am.
PEACH4LIFE ยท 46-50, F
I still go to church to worship. I can never remember not going to church. Church (love) is indeed in your heart and through the studying of God's word but it's just something special to me sitting in a congregation and being fed God's word.
dale74 ยท M
I still go
RuyLopez ยท 56-60, M
I still believe. More of a deist now though. I really lost respect for church leadership. Stop going to church about 10 years ago.
Zonuss ยท 41-45, M
@RuyLopez Why don't you be a leader. ๐Ÿ™‚
RuyLopez ยท 56-60, M
@Zonuss I was for a while. But became disillusioned. The doctrinal issues also were difficult to reconcile with reality.
blindbob ยท 41-45
@RuyLopez I have a colleague who was a priest for a decade. He left the priesthood and religion after that. He was so disillusioned after the time he spent in the monastery. He saw a lot of things so now he chuckles when people describe clerics as pious people.

I stopped going to church in my late teens. I grew up christian so was at church from a young age. I stopped going because i fell away from it. Started my own life. I still believe in god today though just dont attend church.
JimboSaturn ยท 51-55, M
I grew up a devout Catholic. In high school I went to mass 6 days a week and every Sunday of course.

Over the years I have transitioned to being a non-believer in God.
Zonuss ยท 41-45, M
@JimboSaturn What happened.
JimboSaturn ยท 51-55, M
@Zonuss Nothing really. Once I moved away from Catholicism, once I came to terms that some of what I was taught was incorrect, the whole house of cards for Christianity first and then religion fell. I always felt deep down that things should be explain without the use of the supernatural.
LeopoldBloom ยท M
I haven't been inside a house of worship for a decade. And before that was even longer. What a waste of time.
ravenwind43 ยท 51-55, F
I haven't been in a long time. Not against going again but my heart isn't in it.
OverTheHill ยท 56-60, M

I stopped going because I stopped believing.
Zonuss ยท 41-45, M
@ViciDraco Why did you stop believing ๐Ÿค”
ViciDraco ยท 36-40, M
@Zonuss Why do people stop believing in fairy tales, or the monster under the bed or in the closet, or the Easter bunny or Santa Clause?

Basically a lack of evidence that any of it was true. As an adult I started thinking about how some things just did not make any sense. Finally, I tried reading the Bible for myself without anyone cherry picking passages. And I just found there was no reason to believe any of it.

It was a long process, with a lot of conditioning to deconstruct in my own head. It was not comfortable or easy. The easy route would have been to just keep pretending. But I had to choose reality over fiction.

I am glad that I did though. From here I can see how damaging religion can be. That is not to say that all religious people are bad, but it certainly offers a path to great harm and teaches people to reject accepting new information in order to hold onto ideology.
Justenjoyit ยท 56-60, M
Never believed in someone eles take on how things are perceived, I have my own religion made up be me and I run my life on it.

@Stereoguy why not go? Technology can't replace being in church in person. Covid is no excuse to turn your back on God. I went as usual even when this fake pandemic was starting
