Do u believe that Halloween is a Satanic holiday? 🎃 👻 💀 🐍

They say that Halloween is not in to be celebrated.
They say it represents the occult.
It represents the living dead.
They say Halloween is evil.
They say that it is witchcraft . And that it is not for people especially Christians to acknowledge.
Do you believe that Halloween is a Satanic holiday. Comments please. The
floor is yours. 😉 🎃
Whodunnit · M
It's not satanic, it's just not a Christian celebration. Mind you, if you look closely enough, and far back enough in time, a majority of Christian celebrations were not originally Christian either.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Whodunnit No. If someone has seen things you cannot tell them what they have seen if you have not seen it yourself. 🙂
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Whodunnit That's why nobody takes atheists seriously. They have a one dimensional way of looking at the world. I call them simple minded..🙂

That's a pretty common sentiment here in the deep south. Alot of parents boycott Halloween for "Fall Festival". I've gone to a church Fall Festival just to check it out. It's cool.

Sometimes people vandalize Halloween stuff because it's satanic. But then sometimes people vandalize Catholic stuff. I heard of a woman who had her virgin Mary decapitated again and again. A Buddhist monastery some hours away had their statues all busted.

It's funny because Halloween is a religious holiday where I was a little.
@JimboSaturn Nah. It's like everywhere else. Most people are cool, a few outliers otherwise.
@JimboSaturn The Latino Catholics will do dead of the dead and all soul's day here.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@CopperCicada True. Death is not evil to them.
calicuz · 56-60, M
No, not in the least. At the very least, the scariest parts of Halloween come from old traditions. Anything "satanic" about Halloween could only come after the late 1960s since that's when Alistair Crowley created Satanism, or rather, created the Satanic Church.
It is the night before the celebration of the harvest and while the old traditions included wearing costumes, it has developed into a harmless holiday to entertain kids, no matter how old those kids are.

NO its just halloween..... use to be a fricken AWESOME FUN holiday...until people put all this negative bs to it
jademonkey19 · 41-45, T
Is witchcraft Satanism, or is Christianity a bespoke form of witchcraft? With all the rites and rituals and magic spells; prayer, baptism, transubstantian, and so forth.

Halloween is the best; fun costumes, having parties with your neighbors & getting to know them, and sharing hospitality in the form of good food.

@jademonkey19 Interesting perspective.

@jshm2 But we're not talking about how something started, it's about what it is right now and what most people do to celebrate it and what's popular so it's not that westerners are necessarily getting it wrong it's that it has become what it is in the West which is different than what it might be somewhere else or what it was at another time.
Right?
Poppies · 61-69, F
You're not listing all the "they."
Some you left out: They say Halloween is fun entertainment for children and also for adults. They say Halloween is an opportunity for a frisson of safe fear. They say Halloween is an excuse for trick or treating.
MrGomco · 36-40, M
Nah, its origins were not based on praising Satan.
MrGomco · 36-40, M
@Zonuss it is not a satanic holiday but it is a pagan holiday like Christmas 🤷🏻
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@MrGomco Some believe Pagan is evil.
MrGomco · 36-40, M
@Zonuss in that case Christmas is evil 🤷🏻

Lol funny bc my mom called me today to tell me to not hang demonic Halloween decorations or go to satanic parties 😂
it is what you make of it......... I suppose if I worshipped Satan, i could pick out a few of you to sacrifice to the Lord of Darkness....... but, since I do not, I will just eat some Snickers and contribute to the tooth decay of the neighborhood kids.
it predates Christianity, and was nearly universal in ancient times

ANYTHING that does not support Christianity is by definition satanic.
you know, like Teletubbies
Penny · 46-50, F
of all the retarted things. its no more satanic than christmas is. like santa worship (S A N T A . ie- S A T A N lol) halloween is supposed to be a Christian holiday to honor the dead.
The Russian Orthodox Church believes that Halloween is Satanic and un-Russian and wants to stamp out the celebration of the holiday.

@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays Wow. This is deep.🙂
dontbekoi · 36-40, F
Halloween dates back to a pagan festival called Samhain.

The current English name Halloween traces back to medieval Christianity. The word hallow is derived from the Middle and Old English words for holy. As a noun, it can also mean saint. In those days, the Christian holiday we know as All Saints' Day was called All Hallows' Day, and the day before, when an evening mass was held, was All Hallows' Eve. That three-word name eventually got shortened to Halloween.

There are some Christian sects that don't celebrate Halloween but not all of them 🙂
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Look up Dia De Los Muertos some time. And they are christian.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@DeWayfarer

Yes, "The Day of the Dead" and there is nothing satanic about that either.

Full disclosure: I am Mexican American
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@calicuz I know of many that celebrate it. I have worked with many from Mexico.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@DeWayfarer

Ah, I think I read your comment the wrong way. Now I read it the right way.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
It's just dumb fun for dressing up and getting candy. Whatever meaning it once had is long gone
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
It’s pre Christian, so Christians will say it is, even after the tried to remarket it as All Hallows’ Eve.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
I don't see it as a satanic holiday no. It's also worth remembering that the church would demonize almost anything that goes against it, especially if it's not something that can't be appropriated. You don't want people going there and having fun and maybe forgetting the fear of god and weight of sin for a bit. It's similar for any domineering religion, and it's happened many times before Halloween i bet.
it's whatever you want it to be. 🖤🍬
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Zonuss do you do any halloween rituals? magic? voodoo? 🧐🍬 i usually just eat candy & dance
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@lovelywarpedlemon No. Just candy eating rituals if anything 😂
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I have people at my work that feel that way; usually from the Carribean Islands.
Isthisit · F
I dont believe it is satanic. Just a fun day for kids
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
Well the dead is both godly and not evil and not all witches are bad people there are good witches out there
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@MonaReeves86 Good witches 🤔
REMsleep · 41-45, F
For some people Halloween is satanic because thats what they want to do on that day. They want to celebrate gore and death and evil and create fear.
Alot of people think that Satanic only refers to worshipping Satan which is a literal definition but does not encompass what Christians mean when they call something Satanic. Satanic in a loose sense just means to uplift, glorify or celebrate things which are evil.

Halloween started out as all Saints Day which is a Christian holiday.
Slowly mixed with pagan traditions which are anti-Christian.

So basically its what ever you make it but yes alot of Halloween traditions celebrate things such as witchcraft which are against the Christian faith so some Christians do not partake in any part of the holiday to keep far away from doing any wrong or celebrating anything which is evil.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@JimboSaturn Yes I knew about this but it depends on how you choose to frame the conversation. The exact time frame and reasons are in dispute so its not settled history.

The church wanted to offer a celebration in the fall. Maybe this was so that Christians could enjoy a fall festival that wasn't pagan. Maybe the date choosen for All Hallows Eve was a coincidence because end of harvest is a great time to celebrate?
Maybe the church was hoping to squash the Celtic/pagan holiday by replacing with a religious one.
The exact thought process and motivation of the Pope at the time are not completely known.

Gradually people meshed them together so I still think that what I said still stands as correct.
All Hallows day was a Christian holiday and celebrated with All Saints Day.
The Celtic holiday had to do with ghouls and the dead and communication with the other world.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@REMsleep The Catholic church made a holiday of even their own pagan holidays. The Celtic religion at the time was not Satanic it was just not Christian. Now like in Latin America, death is not seen as evil but a part of life Gods plan. I guess I don't like Christians who think that everything that is not Christian is evil
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@JimboSaturn Well I'm not sure if you are putting me into that camp or not but.....
What was celebrated then in Europe is not exactly the same as what is celebrated now specifically in the US which is my frame of reference.
For Christians to acknowledge any source of power other than the almighty God is wrong and blashemous and damnation to our soul so as within any culture words have different meanings and cultural references.
The word Satanic means something different usually to a non Christian. Its taken literally to a non Christian as in devil worshipping or something.

The word evil is even taken a bit different because in a Christian sense anything which is not good is of evil (theistic meaning).
I would not say that this meaning is correct if speaking strickly with non believers. ( standard English secular definition)
So the way that we speak is a source of confusion for some.
Firestarter · 26-30, F
No, it is just for fun
CommandLine · 56-60, M
https://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/christianity/holydays/halloween_1.shtml
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
yes

And saying "It's just for fun" doesn't change anything lol, you can do terrible things "just for fun"
calicuz · 56-60, M
@MartinTheFirst

The Wiki article on Halloween says it was a Celtic celebration where they wore costumes to ward off ghosts. They did have bon fires as well, but my point is its origins are not related to anything satanic.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@calicuz Yeah but satanism is just a small new age religion, what's truly satanic is what has been inspired by Satan
Bang5luts · M
No. I do believe it originated in a pagan form of religion or spiritual belief.. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I think that's a large body of exaggeration. But all that's not without truth
caesar7 · 61-69, M
No...it's just a fun day for kids. I think we all did as kids.
