If you were a child in school during the 80s then you probably did. The creator of the Trapper Keeper passed away in his home state of Georgia. His name was E Bryant Crutchfield. Mead made well over 100 million dollars per year when this product came out. It's a binder type of notebook with a strap up seal. Folders on the inside. It was so cool. I had one. Did you. 🙂
No, I did not have one, exactly, but I bought quite a few of them for my kids. But actually, I think some years the schools said, "No Trapper Keepers allowed!" I think they may have thought they were too fancy or something. I actually think I had never heard of a Trapper Keeper until I first saw a supply list that said they were banned. I just did a little research and it sounds like the biggest criticism by teachers was that they were too large.
My daughter got one in grade school like in 5th grade and then when she went to middle school the school banned them. I don’t know why. She liked hers. Oh I remember why they banned them. They had Velcro on them and the teachers didn’t like the noise they made when the students were opening them.
I only ever had one the whole time I was in school. I remember it getting so beat up that the vinyl was coming off of it in spots. After it's demise I was stuck with the cardboard folders from then on.
@Zonuss I still have one that I inherited from my ex-wife when we divorced. She Drew Winnie the Pooh's Tigger on it and did a really good job. I keep all of my music in it.
@jackjjackson I got my daughter one in 5th grade and the next year she went to middle school and they banned the students from having them there. Because of the Velcro on them making noise when they were opened up.
