How many generations back can you trace your family?
American of European descent here. After doing some genealogy research, it blows my mind to think that my ancestor’s remained in the same areas for so many generations. I’ve lived all over the United States and have known so many areas compared to those that came before me, who rarely/never left their towns/cities. It’s very interesting to think about. How far back can you trace your ancestry? How far can you guys trace your lineage?
I´m from Iceland and i can trace my lineage back as far as 1400 using Íslendingabók also i can see what he/her did as far back as 1400 for example if he/her was a farmer, priest, magistrate, maid or just a housewife. So my question is how far can you trace back your lineage? How far back can your ancestry go in a single town/city? My ancestors come from a small Southern Italian city that they left in 1916. Before then, they lived in the city since as early as the civil documents record (early 1700s for over 100 family lines in my case). This city has been inhabited since Magna Graecia (several hundred centuries BC). What are the odds some of my ancestors were among the first Greek inhabitants? Alternatively, what are the odds they've been there since 1000 AD? Do any of your have families with a very long past in a particular town?
