Our city recently built a village of tiny homes.misway though the lumber prices skyrocketed and local businesses had to step up with money and materials to finish...no problem right ...well now they think they should be exempt from paying taxes on their homes

Because there is no quick and easy fix for it.
Most people don't want to have to work at making problems go away. They just want to wish them into the cornfield.
So when someone brings up an issue like homelessness that will take some diligence and maybe some self-sacrifice to solve, it reminds them of how insignificant they themselves are to the rest of the world.

There are probably many reasons why some people hate the homeless..
Some might think of them as lazy..
Some might think of them as stupid..
Some might think of them as pathetic..
Some might fear them..
Some people blame the homeless for being homeless..
I am sure there are other reasons why some people hate homeless people..

But for a small minority of people, the majority of people are selfish and wish the homeless would not blight their community. Get them out of sight so they do not have to confront the issue.
