Do you think I.Q. tests are an accurate measure of intelligence? Do you consider yourself "intelligent" ?

Personally I do not.
Everyone's brain works differently.
IQ tests show those that have more knowledge over a wider range of subjects rate a higher number.
I am intelligent enough to manage to get through life with not too many kicks in the guts.
I refuse to take an IQ Test and be judge by the number generated.
@Gusman I agree. I can think of a famous brain surgeon who isn't very bright outside of his expertise.
@Gusman I took a very serious offical IQ test first year university.

They are good for seeing where your strengths and weaknesses are .
But the final result is an average, and its affected by time .

And some questions are questionable.
Like there this one about a rate of travel equation.
Given in an example of kayaking against a river current over a given distance .

I was part into working out the maths of it , when I realised , in reality, no one in their tight mind would kayak against the current, for such a long distance - you'de have to be an Olympian to do it!😂

So I worked out a kayak laden walking pace, and put in my answer.

Got it horribly wrong 😏

I was told that one answer dragged my result down .

And yet....I answered it with the most appropriate reasoning.

It wasnt my fault that the boffins who designed the question, were ignorant of the limits and practicalities of kayaking😁

And the fact that the test was not designed to cope with answers outside the box pretty much verified to me ....we need smarter tests , or testers😏

And if a test has ill formed questions, then what does it say about the accuracy of the results?🤷‍♀️
@OogieBoogie A valuable lesson indeed. The nicest compliment I ever got from a professor was, "David, for you, "the box" doesn't exist"

@OogieBoogie All true.
I have looked at IQ Tests over the years and some of them contained questions that I never even understood.
So if I could not even work out what was being asked, how could I take an IQ test? 😁
@Grateful4you ooooh!

Truly ....That's such a good compliment.

And its what the world needs .

We need new solitions to old problems, new ways of using what we know.

Facts and resources are limited to our current state , but creativity isn't.

And I don't think there is room in an IQ test, to test this very essential trait.

And I'm not surprised you exceed the box 🤣
@OogieBoogie What a nice thing to say especially considering I failed everything from grammar school through High School. I refused to pay attention and lived life vicariously through books. Everything changed when I decided to get serious and got through college.
@Gusman I've played witj some that pop up online .

But they are a fraction of an official IQ test .

Some I waded thru, some I skipped thru waaay too easy.

I think the only way IQ tesrs could be even remotely useful is finding scholarly strengths.

Even in my test , I skipped whole questions when I assessed within myself, the time I'd spend answering them, would be more negating time wise, to my result .

They are fallible.
