How do I get rid of a coworker

That my boss refuses to fire. She's been a problem every since she got hired a year ago. She's unprofessional, immature, crazy, and incredibly stupid. I'm her supervisor but I don't have the authority to fire her. The entire office and multiple patients have complained about her, our boss does nothing but talks to her. She claims to be looking for a replacement but it's a weak effort.

Perhaps there are reasons why they tread so carefully with her. Also in this current climate although many people are unemployed looking for work it really is difficult to find a suitable person for the role.
Hiring cost a lot of money that perhaps your boss doesn't want to spend at the moment and maybe in the short-term it's more cost effective to have her than not.
I couldn't exactly say.
What I will say is redirect your focus.
Either ignore her or help.

@Lilliesandlight so why can't you fire her? Do you not have a hr department? They can advise on the protocol for letting someone go, verbal warnings, written etc. There's protocols to follow but you need to follow them accordingly to prevent a lawsuit

@Mellowgirl I don't have the authority to. If I did she would have been gone a long time ago. It's a delicate situation. My boss is the doctors wife. Is I go over her head to hr it won't go over well

@Lilliesandlight then venting here maybe your best option... Sorry difficult employee's make working life doubly hard

Promote her out of your department lol
@Lilliesandlight she gets looked down on

@Elevatorpitches yes because she's a dangerous combination of crazy and stupid. We actually had a meeting this evening about what the hell to do with her. Boss still says she is not going to fire her.
@Lilliesandlight I was that girl in real life and I never recovered the shame of my outing there

I told u the whole story a few days ago in a DM

Go to HR and start a case documenting behavior and poor performance. It will take time but it can happen

Quit your job or suck it up, buttercup.

Document, document, document. People can ALWAYS be fired for cause.

And document how the things wrre brought to your supervisor's attention, and what the response was.

A thick HR file is never good and helps to bolster a case to get rid of someone.

You might also try to show your supervisor how it affects the others in your group (attitude, productivity, etc.).

Move her to a department that she will not enjoy or will stuff up continually?
Maybe she will quit
Lilliesandlight · 41-45, F
@Gusman we keep hoping she will, she's made no secret that she hates her job. There's no where for her to go, it's a small practice. She's refusing to quit because she knows everyone wants her too.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Lilliesandlight Then the boss needs to step up.
If she is the reason for the discontent in the ranks then she must go.
The boss knows this but has little courage.
Is there a spokesperson in your ranks who can talk with the boss?
Lilliesandlight · 41-45, F
@Gusman yes I agree. She's written her up for yelling at the doctor, threatened to fire her if she acts up again. Of course she has and she's still not fired. I've reported every incident of her rudeness and incompetence to my boss. She's made a weak attempt at finding a replacement. We are about to lose our nurse who's been there for 17 yrs, a hard worker and who is professional, over this BS.

File a complaint.
Find a lawyer.
Find an ethics worker.
Find a different job.
Good luck. 🙂
