Please could you define what "a good sense of humour means"? (to you personally)

Sometimes on dating sites I often see a certain type of lady - the type who might describe her self as "bubbly" or insist that the guy has to have "banter" (as if thats solely up to him) - who says she is looking for someone with a Good Sense Of Humour (or GSOH).

I'm never quite sure what this means. How can you apply "good" to a concept like "humour"?

Aside from screaming in pain, or swearing at frustration, Humans are never so honest as when they are laughing.

Perhaps what they're saying is that the guy must share in their sense of humour. But if that's the case, they better go into a bit more detail than just 'good'.

So please, when it comes to laughter (which is one of the most important things in the world) what is the best type of humour?

Or at least could you say how many different types of humour they are?

"Good sense of humor" is definitely relative bc you have to be able to crack jokes that they find tasteful and fun. But there's also a less relative side of it, where you have to be able to provide humor most of the time whwile still taking serious things seriously. You know?

So many women say this about what attracts them to a man. It is not true for me. I enjoy a man who is a deep thinker, intellectual and can be serious. Certainly I enjoy humor, but it's subjective. Yes, I think they are saying as long as the man shares in their humor, makes them laugh.

Good humor to me, would be something natural/spontaneous, in the moment fun or playfulness. Defo not telling silly jokes or acting like a clown all day. That would be exhausting.

@Magenta yeah I don't know if this is me exposing my inadequacies here, but in my head they're the type of girl who likes "confidence" too.

Which as a feminist annoys me because the inherent implication is that they are stock, like cattle, with very very little to distinguish themselves from over cattle and so it's very important for them to know where they stand (hence the requirement for confidence).

Essentially they want a guy who will jump through a predetermined set of hoops..... And this sounds like the utter opposite of romance to me.

True Romance should be without any precedent. Which makes it hard for me to understand why any two people who really love each other would ever both with Valentines Day.

@Jm31xxx I think you're just trying to understand.

I so agree with you. Especially on the cattle and jump through hoops comments. We aren't robots! There's always the typical.. must be ' humorous, intelligent, confident, witty,' blah blah. When I was dating I never had some list of what a man should be. I just let it happen naturally. If there was an attraction and he appealed to me, initially.

I think dating sites and social media must perpetuate these over expectations. I've not seen that in real life situations.

High expectations of others, but, do they themselves deliver?

@Jm31xxx P.S. And a good sense of humor (to me) isn't someone "trying" so hard to be funny. Like I said, natural. 😊

Humor is subjective so it's hard to gauge that. What I find funny you may not. I think what people are saying is they want someone who is able to laugh and have a good time. Some people are really crabby and unable to laugh at things or at themselves and those are the people I'd say don't have a good sense of humor

Humour is subjective...to me, bad humour are dirty jokes, and using the F word all the time. Lucille Ball was truly funny, so was Phyllis Diller and George Carlin and a few others.
It means that I find them funny.

@Ozymandiaz OK. But do you personally have a "good" sense of humour or is not something you need to work on? No judgement, just a query?
@Jm31xxx That would depend on who you ask. Sometimes I do sometimes I dont.
